Although he hasn’t watched any of it, Bryan Danielson hopes John Cena’s last year as a pro wrestler is awesome.
In 2024, Bryan Danielson retired from full-time pro wrestling after being defeated by Jon Moxley at AEW WrestleDream. Just over a year later, one of his former rivals in WWE, John Cena, will be hanging up his boots for good. The pair only had two singles matches, but one of those, at SummerSlam in 2013, proved to be one of the best in Cena’s 20-year career, and kicked off the ‘Yes! Movement’ storyline that led to Danielson’s crowning moment at WrestleMania 30.
During an interview with Justin Barrasso for Undisputed, Danielson was asked about his thoughts on Cena’s last year. The star admitted that he hasn’t watched any of the run, explaining he’s cut down on the amount of media he consumes.
“I honestly haven’t watched, I’m entering this experimental phase of my life where I’m experiencing less input from media. When I went to visit my mother recently, I made a 13-hour drive. I didn’t listen to any music, I didn’t listen to any podcasts. There was nothing but silence. The only times there wasn’t silence was when my wife called, I got on an AEW call, or when I called mom. As I experiment with less input, that also means less wrestling input.”
Despite not seeing it, he wishes Cena nothing but the best, saying the 17-time World Champion deserves his last run to be “awesome.”
“So I haven’t seen any of John Cena’s final run. I’m not watching, but I hope it goes really well for John. That guy deserves the last year of his career to be awesome.”
Will Bryan Danielson Wrestle Again?
While John Cena is adamant he will never wrestle again after December 13th, Bryan Danielson left the door open ahead of his last match, making sure to say he was only retiring from “full-time” competition.
However, in a recent interview, Danielson has admitted his hopes of getting back in the ring were “delusions”. The star says that, while he had hopes of wrestling again, the toll travel has taken since becoming a colour commentator on Dynamite has made him realise it wouldn’t be a good idea.
