Brody King was absent from the February 12 episode of AEW Dynamite, and a new report suggests the decision came from the company’s television partner rather than AEW President Tony Khan.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Warner Bros. Discovery opted to keep Brody King off the broadcast due to concerns that fans might resume the “F*ck ICE” chants heard during his recent match with MJF.
“The deal is that they didn’t want the fans in the arena to be chanting that,” Meltzer said. “If Brody came out, there was that risk… when he comes back, it will happen again.”
Meltzer added that the call was made at a corporate level, not by AEW creative.
“This is again not a Tony call. This is from above,” he said. “Nobody wants to get on Trump’s bad side. If it wasn’t for that, nobody would care, it’s just a chant, but unfortunately they’ve got a company [WBD] they’re trying to sell and get regulatory approval from a guy who is gonna take that stuff personal.”
Both King and MJF were absent from the episode, with their upcoming AEW World Championship match at Grand Slam Australia instead promoted through a video package. King earned the title opportunity the previous week after defeating MJF in a one-sided eliminator match.
What Happened During Brody King Vs. MJF On Last Week’s Dynamite?
During last week’s Brody King vs. MJF bout, fans chanted against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a reaction linked to King previously wearing an “Abolish ICE” shirt at wrestling events. It remains unclear how AEW and its broadcast partner will handle King’s appearances going forward, especially with his title match scheduled for Grand Slam Australia.
