Bret Hart has reflected on one of his early WWF Championship defences, revealing that Scott Hall was far from pleased with how the match came together.
Speaking in an interview with Studio 1 Sports, Bret Hart looked back on his bout with Scott Hall, who competed as Razor Ramon, at the 1993 Royal Rumble 1993, admitting that while he rated the match highly, Hall felt very differently.
“You know the funny thing about that match was that Scott Hall, he hated it,” Hart said. “I had never worked with Scott and I didn’t know him very well… he was not really well-known or established.”
Hart explained that the situation stemmed from a creative disagreement, with Hall arriving prepared with a detailed plan for the match.
“He came in the dressing room and he had a bunch of pages written out of what he wanted to do… and I remember looking at it… and I go, ‘We’re not doing any of this.’”
Bret Hart Turned Down All Of Scott Hall’s Match Ideas
Bret Hart said he rejected Scott Hall’s ideas, believing they were too rehearsed and lacked storytelling, instead choosing to map out the match himself.
“This is all stuff that is so rehearsed and so predictable… It was more of a guy trying to get his moves in than tell a story.”
According to Hart, the decision left Hall frustrated, a reaction that lingered long after the match itself.
“He was just in a pissy mood for it. He did not like it. If anything, he never got over it,” Hart said, before adding, “I think it was the best match he ever had.”
