Bret Hart knows exactly who he would choose if he could step back into the ring for one more match during his prime.
Appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show in April 2025, the WWE Hall of Famer named the late Curt Hennig, better known to wrestling fans as Mr. Perfect, as the opponent he would most like to face again. Bret Hart also singled out his late brother, Owen Hart, as another favourite opponent.
“If I could pick one guy to have one more match with in our prime, it would be Curt,” Hart said. “I loved working with Curt; either Curt or Owen, they were the most fun to work with.”
Hart credited Hennig and fellow Hall of Famer Roddy Piper with helping elevate him from the middle of the card to a main-event performer during his WWE career.
“Curt and Roddy were the two guys that helped launch me and get me up from sort of the middle of the card and made me a main event guy,” Hart explained. “I’ll never forget that.”
The former WWE Champion went on to praise Hennig’s influence on his rise to the top of the company.
“I loved working with Curt, and he had a lot to do with me going on to win the world title and stuff like that.”
Bret Hart & Curt Hennig’s Iconic SummerSlam 1991 Match
Bret Hart and Curt Hennig produced several memorable matches throughout their careers, most notably at SummerSlam 1991 when Hart defeated Mr. Perfect to capture the Intercontinental Championship. The bout remains widely regarded as one of the greatest matches in WWE history and played a major role in establishing Hart as a future world champion.
Hennig passed away in 2003, but his reputation as one of wrestling’s finest in-ring performers remains intact. Hart’s comments serve as another reminder of the respect he continues to hold for his former rival and the impact their matches had on his legendary career.
