Former WWE Champion Big E has addressed the future of his career inside the wrestling ring.
Big E spoke with Stephanie McMahon on “What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon” and addressed the topic of his future career inside a wrestling ring following his 2022 injury, saying that he believes that his career is behind him and is proud of the career he had, but doesn’t think he will ever get back in the ring. He said:
“My career is kind of behind me. I’m someone who is appreciative. I think I had a really good career, and I’m proud of it.”
What Injury Did Big E Suffer?
Big E sustained a broken neck on the March 11, 2022, episode of SmackDown during a match where he teamed with Kofi Kingston, taking on Ridge Holland and Sheamus. During the match, Holland delivered an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on the outside of the ring to Big E, who landed awkwardly on the top of his head and neck. This resulted in the former WWE Champion suffering a fracture to his C1 and C6 vertebrae, but no ligament or spinal cord injuries, so surgery was not required.
He officially announced his retirement from wrestling on October 9, 2025.
