Batista has revealed the two main reasons behind his decision to leave WWE, citing the company’s move to a PG product and its refusal to allow him to pursue acting opportunities outside the promotion.
Speaking to Cale Owen on the W.O.L.F. Gyms YouTube channel, the former World Heavyweight Champion explained that he felt increasingly out of place as WWE shifted towards a more family-friendly presentation.
“The company had taken this really PG turn and there was nothing PG about me. Like nothing. Not the way I wrestle, not the way I look, not my background, not my upbringing, nothing.”
Batista also admitted he became frustrated after seeing other WWE stars land film and commercial roles while he was overlooked despite being one of the company’s top champions.
“I thought it was unfair and I thought I should have those same opportunities within the company.”
When those opportunities failed to materialise, Batista asked WWE if he could pursue acting projects independently. According to the six-time world champion, the request was rejected.
“I was like, ‘Well, if I can’t have these opportunities here… I should be able to go and have them outside of the company.’ And they said, ‘Absolutely not.’ And I said, ‘Oh, well then I’m going to let my contract run out and I’m going to leave.'”

Batista also reflected on the early years of his WWE career, revealing he struggled financially before his breakthrough in 2005 and often relied on cheque-cashing loans to get by. He described the locker room as highly competitive, with established stars viewing talented newcomers as threats because of the limited number of top spots available.
Looking back on his wrestling career, Batista said it was the psychology of professional wrestling that fascinated him most, explaining that putting together a compelling match felt like solving a different puzzle every night.
