A new report has cast doubt on speculation that Brock Lesnar has retired from professional wrestling following his loss to Oba Femi at SummerSlam.
Brock Lesnar was defeated by Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell in the main event of SummerSlam Night One before returning to the ring after the match to endorse his longtime rival as the future of WWE.
The emotional moment, combined with the event taking place in Lesnar’s hometown of Minneapolis, led to questions over whether the former WWE Champion had competed in the final match of his career.
However, according to Fightful Select, WWE sources do not believe SummerSlam marked Lesnar’s retirement, with those within the company expecting that he has not wrestled his last match.
The report also noted that Lesnar’s Hell in a Cell bout was not originally scheduled to headline Night One, with the match only being moved into the main event during SummerSlam week.
Triple H Addressed Brock Lesnar’s WWE Future
Following the event, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H was asked about Brock Lesnar’s future during the post-show press conference. While he admitted Lesnar’s comments after the match could be interpreted in different ways, he stopped short of confirming whether the 49-year-old had retired.
“I don’t know. You saw Brock in whatever way he did it, retire a few months ago so to speak, and then come back and do this.”
Triple H also pointed to Lesnar’s endorsement of Femi as a significant moment.
“For Brock to walk back to the ring, bring Oba back with him, put him over verbally and physically as the future of the business… ‘I am the past’ is what he said.”
Despite that, Triple H reiterated that predicting Lesnar’s future has never been straightforward.
“You know as well as I do Brock does what Brock wants to do.”
For now, Lesnar’s in-ring future remains uncertain, although the latest report suggests WWE does not believe his SummerSlam appearance was the final chapter of his career.
