A late addition to the WrestleMania 42 card with a Gunther vs. Seth Rollins match being set has raised questions following WWE Raw, but a backstage explanation has now emerged.
Gunther is set to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42, despite limited on-screen build between the two before this week’s show. According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful’s Raw Review, the match came together following injuries that forced WWE to adjust its original plans.
“What we’re seeing is the adjustment for Rey Mysterio being sidelined with an injury, which was Gunther’s plan, and Bron Breakker, despite being backstage, still being sidelined, and that was Seth Rollins’s plan. So, you put them together, and there you go,” Sapp said.
The match was set up during Raw when Rollins attacked Paul Heyman, prompting Gunther to return and intervene. Gunther pulled Rollins from the ring and put him to sleep with a sleeper hold before pointing towards the WrestleMania sign.
Has Gunther Joined The Vision?
While the segment established the match, it also led to speculation regarding Gunther’s motivations. His decision to protect Paul Heyman, who is aligned with several top stars as part of The Vision faction, has prompted questions about potential future alliances or opportunities.
Some have speculated that Gunther’s actions could position him for a future confrontation with Brock Lesnar, particularly given Heyman’s association with Lesnar. Reports have suggested Lesnar’s current run may be nearing its end, with SummerSlam mentioned as a possible final appearance.
Although those scenarios remain unconfirmed, the immediate result is clear: Gunther versus Seth Rollins is now set for WrestleMania 42 as WWE continues to reshape its card in the final weeks before the event.
