Alberto Del Rio is now the subject of a formal criminal investigation in Mexico following his recent arrest, with prosecutors outlining the allegations against him.
The Fiscalía General del Estado de San Luis Potosí confirmed on April 7, 2026, that it has opened an investigation into Alberto Del Rio on a charge of violencia familiar, or domestic violence, stemming from an incident on April 6, 2026.
In a statement, authorities said “Alberto ‘N’” is accused of physically and verbally assaulting his partner at a residence in the Lomas del Tecnológico area. Mexican law refers to accused individuals in this manner in public statements. The alleged victim reportedly placed a call for help, prompting members of the Guardia Civil Estatal to respond and detain Del Rio at the scene.
Del Rio has since been transferred to a specialised unit that handles crimes against women, families and sexual offences. Prosecutors are expected to complete their investigation file before presenting the case to a judge at an initial hearing.
According to reports from Milenio, the alleged victim sustained injuries to her face and arms. Infobae México identified her as Del Rio’s wife, Mary Carmen Rodríguez Lucero, who is said to be under medical and legal protection.
Alberto Del Rio Could Face Up To 20 Years In Prison If Found Guilty
Under the San Luis Potosí criminal code, a conviction on the base charge carries a potential sentence of one to seven years in prison. However, a more serious charge, lesiones cometidas contra la mujer en razón de su género, could apply in cases involving severe or degrading injuries or a pattern of alleged abuse, carrying a potential sentence of eight to 20 years.
Meaning if Alberto Del Rio is found guilty and convicted this year, the former WWE Champion may not leave prison until 2046, when he will be 68 years old.
