Alberto Del Rio could be facing significant prison time as new details emerge surrounding the case against him in Mexico.
Prosecutors in San Luis Potosí are reportedly considering charges that carry a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison following Alberto Del Rio’s recent arrest. While the investigation remains ongoing, the severity of the possible charges has now come into clearer focus.
According to reports from Milenio, authorities could pursue one of two charges under the state’s criminal code. The lesser charge, violencia familiar, carries a potential sentence of between one and seven years in prison, along with a financial penalty.
However, a more serious charge, lesiones cometidas contra la mujer en razón de su género, could be applied in cases involving severe or degrading injuries, or where there is an alleged pattern of violence. That offence carries a potential sentence ranging from eight to 20 years in prison, significantly increasing the stakes of the case.
Reports indicate that this more severe charge may be considered depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation and the evidence gathered by prosecutors.
