AJ Styles says fans should not expect a long-discussed dream match with Kenny Omega to ever happen.
Speaking on The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding a possible showdown with the AEW star and admitted he cannot see the match becoming a reality.
“The same dream match that everybody wants me to have with Kenny Omega,” AJ Styles said. “The match that’s never gonna happen unless something crazy happens, and I can’t imagine that.”
Although Styles shut down the possibility of the bout, he still praised Omega and admitted that the two would likely produce a memorable match.
“Kenny’s my buddy, so to be in the ring with him would be fun,” Styles explained. “We’d tear the house down, I have no doubt about that. But again, that’s not gonna happen.”
AJ Styles & Kenny Omega’s Time Together In NJPW
AJ Styles and Kenny Omega famously crossed paths during their time together in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, although they never faced each other in a major singles match on a mainstream stage.
Their final appearance together in NJPW came at New Year Dash 2016, where Styles and Omega teamed up against Shinsuke Nakamura and YOSHI-HASHI. Following the match, Omega and the rest of Bullet Club turned on Styles and removed him from the faction shortly before Styles departed for WWE.
While the two never collided in NJPW, Styles and Omega did wrestle once nearly two decades ago at PCW Back To School Bash, where Omega picked up the victory.
