AJ Styles has revealed what he considers the best WrestleMania match of his career, and the answer may catch some fans off guard.
Speaking on The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, AJ Styles was asked to reflect on the standout matches he would recommend to future generations. He pointed to several acclaimed bouts from earlier in his career, including his work with Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe and Jerry Lynn, all of which remain highly regarded.
Styles also highlighted his WWE rivalry with Roman Reigns, suggesting those matches deserve more recognition than they typically receive.
“I don’t know if a lot of people would expect that,” Styles said when discussing his matches with Reigns.
AJ Styles Says His WrestleMania 33 Match With Shane McMahon Is His Best Ever Mania Match
However, when the conversation turned specifically to WrestleMania, AJ Styles gave a definitive answer.
“The best WrestleMania match I had was against Shane McMahon,” Styles said. “You’ve got Shane, who is a perfectionist, he wants it perfect, and man, I get that. We just so happened to be able to place things where they should be in the storyline we had going into it, and it made it a perfect match.”
The bout took place at WrestleMania 33 and saw Styles defeat Shane McMahon in a match that blended high-risk moments with a carefully structured story. Styles retired from in-ring competition in January following a loss to Gunther at the Royal Rumble, and has since transitioned into a behind-the-scenes role with WWE focused on talent development.
