AEW’s Chuck Taylor has revealed that he has undergone neck surgery.
Chuck Taylor, who turned 39 in April, shared the update on Instagram on Saturday, posting a photo from the hospital and captioning it, “Got my neck cut off.” While Taylor was forced into retirement last year due to osteonecrosis in his ankle stemming from a previous fracture, this latest procedure appears to be unrelated and focused on his neck.
Chuck Taylor last competed in April 2024, working his final match on the April 25 episode of AEW Rampage. The bout saw Taylor face longtime Best Friends stablemate Trent Beretta in a Parking Lot Brawl, closing out his in-ring career.
Since stepping away from active competition, Taylor has remained with All Elite Wrestling in a backstage role, working as a coach and producer. No timetable has been announced regarding his recovery, but Taylor continues to be involved with AEW behind the scenes following his retirement from wrestling.
How Long Did Chuck Taylor Wrestle For?
Chuck Taylor wrestled for 22 years, making his debut at the age of 15 for promotions in Tennessee and Illinois, as he was unable to compete in his home state of Kentucky due to a law prohibiting those under 18 from competing at wrestling events.
Taylor would go on to become a mainstay in the U.S. independent scene, wrestling for the likes of Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Evolve, Dragon Gate USA, and TNA. He also wrestled for New Japan from 2017 until 2019, when he joined AEW until his in-ring retirement in 2024.
