The AEW World Title will officially be on the line at Grand Slam: Australia, following a major upset on Dynamite last night.
After a stunning and decisive result on Wednesday’s Dynamite, AEW World Champion MJF will defend his title against Brody King at Grand Slam Australia later this month in Sydney.
King earned the championship opportunity by defeating MJF in a World title eliminator that closed the show. The match ended in shocking fashion, with “Hangman” Adam Page providing a crucial distraction that allowed King to strike. King locked in his sleeper on the apron, dragged the champion back into the ring, and followed with the Gonzo Bomb to score a rapid victory and secure the title shot.
The closing moments of Dynamite also set up another major match for the Australian event, as Page and Andrade El Idolo will face off for the right to challenge the AEW World Champion at Revolution in March. King stood tall to end the night, holding the championship aloft.
Grand Slam Australia will mark MJF’s first appearance competing in the country and his third defence of the AEW World Championship. For King, the bout represents his first-ever AEW World title match and a chance to capture his first singles championship with the company.
How Long Has MJF Been AEW World Champion?
MJF has held the AEW World Championship for 40 days, capturing the title from Samoa Joe by winning a Four-Way match at Worlds End on December 27, 2025. MJF cashed in his Call Your Shot Casino Gauntlet opportunity to insert himself into the title match at Worlds End, which was originally scheduled to be a Three-Way match with Joe defending against Adam Page and Swerve Strickland.
