An AEW star has spoken about how they feared they might get stabbed following a heated interaction with a fan.
AEW star Daniel Garcia has recalled two of the most intense reactions he has received as a heel, including one incident in Los Angeles where he feared he might be stabbed after a show. Speaking on Thrive with Alex Sagot, Garcia reflected on the lengths some fans have gone to while reacting to his villainous character, admitting there have been occasions where confrontations became far more serious than the usual jeers.
“Man, there’s been times fans have tried to fight me before. At a show in L.A., a fan tried to fight me. We had to walk out… I thought I was going to get stabbed. I didn’t, thankfully. We got a very good security team.”
Garcia also described the passionate response he received while competing for CMLL in Mexico. As one of the promotion’s foreign heels, he said fans remained hostile even after the show had ended.
“We were the bad guys… we’re the foreigners in the country, so people really hated us. We walked out of the building and there was just a mob of fans flipping us off and swearing at us… We had to have a police escort out of the building.”

Despite the frightening situations, Daniel Garcia said reactions like those are proof he is succeeding in his role as a heel in AEW.
“That’s what makes you kind of feel alive in those moments. My job as a bad guy is to make the fans as angry as possible so when the good guy beats us, the fans are happy. If the fans really hate me, I guess I’m doing my job right.”
While both incidents ended without Garcia being harmed, he said they serve as a reminder that passionate wrestling fans can still become deeply invested in the action, particularly when a performer has successfully drawn genuine animosity.
