AEW star ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey believes Tony Khan knows how to play to the AEW roster’s strengths.
Despite only having been in the pro wrestling business for seven years, Tony Khan has received a lot of praise from fans for how well he has put shows together, particularly in recent months. One reason for this is his ability to pair wrestlers in the ring who can play to one another’s strengths.
On the Battleground Podcast, ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey said that while the AEW President doesn’t give him specific feedback for his matches, he does give him enough to know what he should do in future.
“It’s not really a conversation that we’ve had, right? It’s specifically, or methodologically, what he wants to see from his people in the ring but he has been very encouraging and he’s always there. He’s always at Gorilla, and I always get match feedback from him. While it’s not incredibly specific, it does let me know exactly what I need to do in my matches going forward.”
Continuing, Bailey said Khan knows his people’s strengths, and this has meant that Speedball has found himself in “fantastic situations.”
“I think he’s extremely smart about knowing his people’s strengths, and he has put me in a lot of fantastic situations, and that just lets me know that he sees me as someone who is able to go into those big matches. For example, I know that the match I had against Jon Moxley that I had on Collision is a match that Tony just wouldn’t put anyone else in. Going 20 minutes with Jon Moxley is a pretty big deal, and that just shows a lot of faith, and I really appreciate that.”

One man who has worked under both Tony Khan and Vince McMahon is Paul Wight, who is currently under an AEW contract as an on-air personality.
According to the former Big Show, the key difference between the two promoters was that while McMahon treated his superstars like wrestlers, Tony Khan treats the stars of AEW like professional athletes.
He also believes that Khan has created a positive environment for young wrestlers to explore their characters and develop, rather than being scripted in everything they do.
