An AEW star is nearing a return to the ring after an extended absence, having recently been medically cleared following multiple surgeries.
Speaking with Muscle and Fitness, Brian Cage confirmed he has received full clearance after undergoing three knee operations in 2025, which kept him sidelined from AEW for nearly a year.
“I haven’t made my return yet. I just got cleared fully from everyone to be able to come back,” Cage said. “There’s the hope of that too, of like, okay, this is a perfect way to press restart and come back in a new way.”
Cage outlined the final stages of his recovery, including an in-ring test to confirm his readiness.
“I had the match to get cleared yesterday… one of the things he wanted me to do was get up to just the second rope and jump off… I’m like, can I do that?… I guess we’ll find out, and yeah, I did it. It was totally fine.”
When Was Brian Cage’s Last AEW Match?
Brian Cage last competed inside of an AEW ring on the March 19, 2025 episode of AEW Collision, where he teamed with fellow Don Callis Family team mates Konosuke Takeshita and Lance Archer to defeat the team of Powerhouse Hobbs, Mark Briscoe, and Rocky Romero.
The 42-year-old has not wrestled since March 20, 2025, when he faced Chris Masters. While now cleared, he noted that the timing and presentation of his return remain undecided.
“I can’t wait, and I don’t know when or where or even how… I don’t wanna have too high of expectations.”
Cage also revealed he experienced a minor setback during rehabilitation, straining his back while performing box jumps.
“Out of nowhere… I strain my back… which makes no sense… now my back is killing me,” he said, adding that he continued to train through the issue.
With over two decades of experience, Cage added that he is considering adjusting his in-ring style, potentially limiting high-risk moves to key moments.
