A new report suggests AEW could be preparing to strengthen its roster with additional signings later this year.
According to Fightful Select, AEW is expected to add “nationally televised talent” during the summer months. No further details were provided on potential signings, but the report has already fuelled speculation about who could be joining the company.
Several notable names are expected to become available in the coming months following WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts. Once their 90-day non-compete clauses expire, a number of former WWE stars will officially become free agents.
Among the names that have generated speculation are former New Day members Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, as well as veteran tag team Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, better known as the Motor City Machine Guns.
The Young Bucks Teased The New Day’s Debut In AEW
Adding further intrigue to the rumours, The Young Bucks appeared to tease the possibility of Kingston and Woods arriving in AEW during a recent episode of Being The Elite. During the segment, Matt and Nick Jackson repeatedly referenced the phrase “new day” while discussing the future.
“Every day is a new day. That’s a great point,” Matt Jackson said. “Every time you wake up, and the next day is a new day. I’m never afraid about the new day. When a new day is coming, I’m excited.”
While the comments may have been nothing more than playful banter, many fans interpreted them as a nod to the former WWE tag team.
At this stage, AEW has not announced any upcoming signings, and there is no confirmation regarding which wrestlers the company may be targeting. However, with several high-profile free agents set to hit the market in the coming months, the report suggests AEW’s roster could look significantly different by the end of the summer.
