Tony Khan has announced that there will be a new AEW title and that the inaugural champion will be crowned at Full Gear.
Tony Khan, speaking with Tony Schiavone in a Twitter live video, announced the creation of the AEW National Championship. Khan and Schiavone said that the new title is heavily inspired by similarly named titles that existed in the historic territories of Georgia Championship Wrestling and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling.
Khan also confirmed that the first AEW National Champion will be crowned in a Casino Gauntlet Match that will take place at Full Gear on November 22 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Following the announcement of the new title match, the card for AEW Full Gear currently looks like this:
- Pre-Show: Big Boom AJ and QT Marshall vs. Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta
- Kris Statlander (c) vs. Mercedes Mone for the Women’s World Championship
- “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Samoa Joe for the World Title
- Bandido and Brody King (c) vs. Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood for the World Tag Team Championship
- Kenny Omega, Jack Perry and Luchasaurus vs. Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson and Josh Alexander in a $1,000,000 Trios match
- Bobby Lashley vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Ricochet vs. TBA in a Casino Gauntlet match to crown the first National Champion
- Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Mark Briscoe in a No DQ match for the TNT Title, and if Briscoe loses, he must join The Don Callis Family
