Two major titles changed hands last night on AEW Dynamite.
Two new champions were crowned on AEW Dynamite as Thekla captured the AEW Women’s World Championship and Kyle Fletcher regained the TNT Title in separate title bouts on Wednesday night. The wins marked a major shake-up across both divisions, with Thekla capturing her first AEW title and Fletcher recapturing the title he lost late last year.
Thekla’s reign as AEW Women’s World Champion officially began after she defeated Kris Statlander in a strap match. The finish came when the Sisters of Sin distracted Statlander at ringside, allowing Thekla to tie her opponent’s hands behind her back. With Statlander unable to defend herself, Thekla delivered a curb stomp to secure the victory.
After the match, Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor, known as the Brawling Birds, ran out to even the odds as Statlander lay bloodied in the ring. Statlander had been cut open during the bout and was bleeding heavily from the head.
The title change ends Statlander’s 145-day reign, which began at All Out in September in a four-way match that also included Thekla. Statlander successfully defended the championship five times, including a win over Thekla on January 28.
For Thekla, the victory marks her first singles title since 2022, when she last held gold in Stardom as one half of the Goddesses of Stardom Tag Team Champions alongside Momo Watanabe.
TNT Title Also Changes Hands On AEW Dynamite
Kyle Fletcher also reclaimed the TNT Championship by defeating Tommaso Ciampa in a hard-hitting contest. Fletcher ended Ciampa’s 13-day reign after landing a brainbuster and scoring the pinfall to capture the title for a second time.
Following the match, Fletcher took the microphone and announced he would defend the championship at this Saturday’s AEW Grand Slam Australia event, noting that he was returning home. Former champion Mark Briscoe interrupted and called his shot, challenging Fletcher for what would be the seventh match in their unofficial series.
Fletcher agreed to the bout but added a stipulation, saying Briscoe would have to “reach for the sky” because the match would be a ladder match. Briscoe quickly accepted the challenge. The victory gives Fletcher his second TNT Title reign. His previous run lasted 114 days before ending at Full Gear in November, where he lost the championship to Briscoe in a No Disqualification match.
