A championship changed hands during Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, and outside interference played a decisive role in the outcome.
The Don Callis Family team of Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, and Mark Davis captured the AEW World Trios Championship in AEW Dynamite’s main event, defeating the defending champions Jet Set Rodeo.
The title bout featured “Hangman” Adam Page teaming with Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey to defend the championships, but the contest ended in dramatic fashion after interference from AEW World Champion MJF.
Late in the match, Page appeared to have Mark Davis on the verge of defeat after connecting with a Buckshot Lariat and tagging in Knight to attempt a combination finishing move. However, MJF suddenly appeared at ringside and knocked Page off the ring apron, removing him from the equation.
With the champions momentarily down a man, Kazuchika Okada capitalised by delivering the Rainmaker to Knight before Davis followed up with a piledriver to secure the victory and the championships.
For Knight, the main event marked his second match of the evening. Earlier in the show, he unsuccessfully challenged MJF for the AEW World Championship in the opening bout.
World Trios Title Bout Was Set Up Earlier On AEW Dynamite
The Trios Championship match came together earlier in the AEW Dynamite broadcast after Adam Page scored a quick victory in singles competition. MJF appeared shortly afterward to taunt his upcoming AEW Revolution opponent, prompting Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, and Mark Davis to attack Page.
Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey rushed to the ring to even the odds before Don Callis himself appeared and issued a challenge for the Trios titles. Callis claimed that AEW President Tony Khan had approved the championship match, setting up the main event confrontation.
The loss ends a 50-day reign for Jet Set Rodeo as AEW World Trios Champions. During that run, the group managed only one successful title defence before Wednesday’s defeat.
The victory adds more championship gold to The Don Callis Family stable. Fletcher already holds the TNT Championship, while Okada currently carries the AEW International Championship, making both men double champions within AEW.
For Mark Davis, the victory marks his first championship in AEW and his first title win anywhere since he and Fletcher briefly held the ROH Tag Team Championship in 2023. In a notable coincidence, that reign ended when they lost the titles to MJF and Adam Cole.
With the AEW World Trios Championship now under the control of The Don Callis Family, the faction’s influence within the company continues to grow as AEW moves closer to its next major pay-per-view event, Revolution.
