AEW Dynamite continued building toward AEW Forbidden Door, with several major rivalries escalating and key tournament developments throughout last night’s show.
Last night’s AEW Dynamite opened with MJF and the Don Callis Family laying out their plans for the upcoming Twelve-Man Steel Cage Match at Forbidden Door. Don Callis revealed that Kyle Fletcher, Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight, Jake Doyle, and Andrade El Idolo would join MJF on his team, although Andrade appeared surprised by the announcement.
In the first match of the evening, Kenny Omega made quick work of Tony Nese. Omega neutralised Mark Sterling’s attempted interference before putting Nese away with the One-Winged Angel. Following the victory, Omega was confronted by Zack Sabre Jr., with both men hinting at a major showdown at Forbidden Door.
Brody King and Bandido then picked up a hard-fought victory over Jon Moxley and Daniel Garcia. Despite interference from Marina Shafir and a physical performance from the Death Riders, Bandido secured the win when he connected with the 21 Plex on Garcia. Later in the show, Moxley offered Bandido an opportunity to challenge for the AEW Continental Championship.
Elsewhere, Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada were shown standing over a fallen Tomohiro Ishii backstage after taking him out ahead of the upcoming Steel Cage Match. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage also continued their issues with The Dogs, attacking David Finlay and Clark Connors before delivering a warning to their rivals.
Mercedes Mone advanced in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament with a submission victory over Hazuki in a highly competitive semi-final match. Hazuki pushed Mone to the limit throughout the contest, but Mone ultimately forced her opponent to tap out to the Statement Maker.
One of the night’s most heated moments came when Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland met in the ring. The two exchanged personal verbal shots ahead of their upcoming Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final, with tensions eventually boiling over into a physical confrontation. The segment ended with the Death Riders surrounding the ring before Strickland walked away, leaving Ospreay behind.
The main event featured MJF, Andrade El Idolo, Jake Doyle, Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight, and Kyle Fletcher taking on Darby Allin, Konosuke Takeshita, Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy, and Roderick Strong.
The chaotic twelve-man tag team encounter saw all sides brawl throughout the arena, while underlying tensions within the Don Callis Family continued to emerge. Briscoe appeared to have MJF beaten after connecting with a J-Driller, but Don Callis distracted the referee before a count could be made. Moments later, MJF capitalised by trapping Strong in the Salt of the Earth armbar and forcing him to submit.
After the match, MJF and the Don Callis Family continued attacking their opponents. Andrade initially hesitated to join the assault, but eventually helped MJF target Briscoe as the heels stood tall to close the show ahead of Forbidden Door.
