The results for last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite are in.
MJF retained the AEW World Championship, Hikaru Shida captured the vacant TBS Championship, and Kenny Omega put his future title aspirations on the line during last night’s edition of Dynamite.
The show opened with the fallout from AEW Forbidden Door as Jon Moxley met with Will Ospreay backstage. Moxley encouraged the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament winner to help protect professional wrestling, then presented him with a Death Riders patch. Kenny Omega later crossed paths with Ospreay and MJF, with Omega making it clear that he still had his sights set on the AEW World Championship.
MJF successfully defended the AEW World Championship against Mark Briscoe in the night’s opening match. Briscoe came close to ending MJF’s reign on several occasions with multiple Froggy Bows and a J-Driller, but the champion survived and then delivered an Alabama Slam and the Heat Seeker to secure the victory. After the match, MJF attacked Briscoe with the Dynamite Diamond Ring until Omega made the save.
Omega challenged MJF to defend the AEW World Championship immediately, but the champion instead agreed to a title match next week at Beach Break under one condition. Should Omega fail to win, he will never again be allowed to challenge for the AEW World Championship.
Andrade El Idolo declared his intention to become AEW World Champion before he was blindsided by The Don Callis Family. Brian Cage laid Andrade out with a Drill Claw before Kevin Knight retained the TNT Championship against Lio Rush. Following the match, Darby Allin confronted Knight and demanded a title opportunity, but Don Callis rejected the challenge. “Speedball” Mike Bailey was then shown watching the confrontation from the crowd.
Elsewhere, Jericho and Tommaso Ciampa brawled throughout the backstage area after Jericho attacked Ciampa with a garbage can, while Kenny Omega later informed The Young Bucks that he intended to face MJF alone.
Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley teamed together later in the night to defeat Lee Johnson and Blake Christian. Moxley planted Johnson with the Paradigm Shift before Ospreay finished the match with the Hidden Blade.
Jay White then addressed the audience for the first time since his return, targeting David Finlay and declaring that no one was better suited to end his rival’s arrogance.
The vacant AEW TBS Championship was decided in a Survival of the Fittest match featuring Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, Harley Cameron, Queen Aminata, Maika and Persephone. After a chaotic contest that saw Cameron, Maika, Aminata and Persephone eliminated, Shida was awarded the victory and the championship after Persephone returned to the ringside and struck Statlander with the TBS Championship belt.
Omega closed the show with an emotional promo reflecting on his career before officially accepting MJF’s stipulation for next week’s title match. The celebration was short-lived as MJF attacked him from behind, leading to a wild pull-apart brawl that ended with the champion and challenger staring each other down ahead of their Beach Break showdown.
