AEW has officially confirmed the start date for the 2026 Continental Classic, with 12 wrestlers set to compete for the Continental Championship.
The company announced Monday that this year’s tournament will begin on the November 18 episode of AEW Dynamite from the Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colorado. The show will be the first Dynamite following Full Gear, continuing the tradition of the Continental Classic beginning immediately after the pay-per-view.
The tournament will once again feature a round-robin format split across two leagues. Competitors receive three points for a win and one point for a draw, with matches limited to 20 minutes. Continental Rules also prohibit anyone from being at ringside, while outside interference is not permitted.
Jon Moxley To Defend AEW Continental Title Throughout Tournament
Current Continental Champion Jon Moxley will automatically enter the tournament and defend his championship throughout the competition. Unlike a traditional tournament, where the champion waits for a challenger to emerge, Moxley will compete alongside the other 11 entrants. Each match will therefore put the Continental Championship at risk.
Moxley won last year’s Continental Classic after defeating Kyle Fletcher in the semi-final before facing Kazuchika Okada at Worlds End on December 27. The final marked the first singles meeting between Moxley and Okada, with Moxley defeating the then-champion to capture the Continental Championship.
Moxley has since retained the title against Nigel McGuinness at AEW All In: London. That match also saw Moxley become the inaugural winner of the Continental Challenge Cup, a separate competition from the Continental Classic.
The Continental Classic debuted in 2023, with Eddie Kingston winning the inaugural tournament and becoming the first Continental Champion. His reign lasted 81 days. Okada won the 2024 tournament by defeating Will Ospreay in the final and went on to hold the championship for 647 days, the longest reign in the title’s history. Moxley ended that reign by winning the 2025 Continental Classic and will now attempt to retain the championship throughout this year’s tournament.
