AEW taped this Saturday’s AEW Collision: Summer Blockbuster on Thursday night, with several major developments taking shape ahead of AEW Forbidden Door.
The show opened with Kenny Omega scoring a victory over Bad Dude Tito before turning his attention to Forbidden Door. Omega later addressed his upcoming dream match against Zack Sabre Jr., further building anticipation for one of the promotion’s most anticipated bouts.
The Don Callis Family remained a focal point throughout the taping. Kyle Fletcher claimed Konosuke Takeshita was responsible for preventing Mark Davis from reaching the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final, while Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada vowed to bring the AEW International Championship back to the faction.
AEW TNT Champion Kevin Knight successfully retained his title against Myron Reed. Knight continues to build momentum following his recent alignment with the Don Callis Family and his growing role in the Forbidden Door build.
The women’s division also received significant attention. Athena defeated Tiara James before continuing her attack after the bell. Maya World ran in to make the save, only for Athena to return and assault her as well. Earlier in the night, Athena had cut a promo targeting World.
Another major development came when Tony Schiavone publicly apologised to Stardom after Thekla‘s recent comments. Thekla interrupted and refused to apologise, instead challenging Stardom to send its best representative to Forbidden Door. Later in the show, Stardom star Starlight Kid officially answered the challenge, setting up a cross-promotional showdown for the pay-per-view.
Elsewhere, The Rascalz defeated Aaron Atlas and Austin Atlas, while The Dogs picked up a notable victory over The Young Bucks. The Bang Bang Gang later responded by joking that they wanted to “spay and neuter” The Dogs.
Two Survival of the Fittest qualifying matches also took place. Persephone defeated Julia Hart, while Hikaru Shida overcame Zayda Steel to advance.
Ricochet delivered a message to Konosuke Takeshita, signalling his intent to pursue the former International Champion.
The show also featured a backstage tease for Dynamite, with Mark Briscoe and MJF set to reveal their respective teams for the upcoming Twelve-Man Steel Cage Match at Forbidden Door.
In the main event, the Death Riders team of Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, Pac, Claudio Castagnoli and Marina Shafir defeated Shane Taylor Promotions in a violent Cincinnati Street Fight. The victory gave Moxley and company momentum heading into Forbidden Door and capped off an eventful night of action.
