Adam Copeland has discussed achieving a goal he previously thought was impossible.
At MLP Northern Rising, Adam Copeland achieved one of his wrestling dreams when he wrestled in Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens, now known as the Mattamy Athletic Centre. When they were young, Cope and Christian Cage regularly attended wrestling shows at the venue, and even met their favourite stars after events.
In a new documentary, MLP cameras followed Copeland as he returned to the Gardens for the first time in decades. The Rated-R Superstar said it was easily the most important venue for him to compete in, and he never thought it would happen.
“For me, this was easily the most important venue for me to wrestle in, over any other, over Wembley Stadium, over any of them. Maple Leaf Gardens has always been my one place that I wanted to get to. Here we are today.
“No, I never thought I’d wrestle in Maple Leaf Gardens. Between the fact that I had retired for nine years, and then even once I got my career back, just with the landscape of what wrestling is and where I was working, Maple Leaf Gardens was a pipe dream.
“I thought if I were going to ever wrestle there, I’d have to run my own show, and then Scott D’Amore and I, we started talking and realized, ‘Wait, this is now a possibility now that I’m with AEW, we could actually do this.’”
In the main event, Cope and Steve Maclin fought all over the arena in a Street Fight before Copeland finally hit a Spear for the victory.
Adam Copeland Will Retire In 2027
It’s fitting that Adam Copeland was able to achieve one of his biggest dreams in wrestling now, as shortly afterwards, he announced that he will retire from professional wrestling in 2027. The star explained on a recent episode of Dynamite that he is “aging out,” but had set his sights on the AEW World Title.
Unfortunately, at WrestleDream, while he came close to winning Clockwork Carnage, Will Ospreay was able to hit him with a Hidden Blade to get the decisive final fall in the match and retain his title.
