The independent wrestling world is mourning the passing of MB Funk, following tributes shared by multiple promotions and fellow wrestlers across social media.
MB Funk, whose real name was Michael Blake Whitehead, was best known for teaming with IB Fresh as part of the tag team Funk N’ Fresh on the Midwest independent wrestling scene.
WrestleArts in Indianapolis publicly confirmed the news and paid tribute to Funk, describing him as a kind soul.
“WrestleArts sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the beloved Michael Blake Whitehead professionally known as MB Funk. MB had such a kind soul.”
Longtime friend Phil Stamper also commented on the passing, stating that Funk had apparently died in his sleep. Stamper remembered him as a steadily improving performer who was well-liked throughout the wrestling community and would be deeply missed.
“I’m a bit numb right now. My friend, Micheal Blake Whitehead aka MB Funk, apparently passed in his sleep last night. It was always great seeing you and see you constantly improve. You have so many people who love you and will miss you.”
Throughout his career, Funk competed for several independent promotions, including Midwest Championship Wrestling and Pro Wrestling King.
