Imagine you get a one-year visa to aid your occupation. The new opportunities, the fresh experiences, the unfamiliar challenges.
Ontario’s Vaughn Vertigo has had a busy 2025 since being approved for his US visa in February. But he hasn’t slowed down. In a recent interview with SlamWrestling.net, he explained how his year has gone.
“I got my visa approved back in February, I knew the first six months were going to be a little bit slow. And then I’d say in May, it really started to pick up. Summer doesn’t tend to be that busy. In September, October, November, that’s when things start picking up again into the new year. If things are staying the way they are with September, I think the rest of the year is going to be very, very good.”
This Saturday, Vaughn Vertigo takes on TARIK and Mark Wheeler in a Triple Threat #1 Contenders Match at Smash Wrestling’s Ante Up, following AEW All Out. The Smash show will take place just down the road from Scotiabank Arena, at the Rec Room.
Vertigo spoke on the added wrinkle of the third competitor. “You have that outlying factor, especially in this case with somebody like Mark Wheeler who I’ve been feuding with for over a year now. Somebody who’s screwed me over consistently and I’ve screwed him over consistently … He lost his championship opportunity, but claims to be the number one contender.”
Vertigo is also familiar with TARIK but their Smash Wrestling paths haven’t really crossed before. “So that’s another interesting factor, when I was coming up in wrestling, and especially in Smash, he was the guy in Ontario, and now it feels like I’m coming up to a level where I feel like I can be on his level. So now it’s a case of ‘can I beat my former rival [Mark Wheeler]’, and ‘can I beat the best guy in Smash wrestling’, right?”
“I’m looking forward to the Triple Threat to hopefully surprise [TARIK], and if not maybe a singles match down the line.”
Regardless of the outcome Saturday, 2025 will continue to be rewarding for Vaughn Vertigo.
