As customary, Tony Khan starts the call by noting his excitement for the upcoming show.
With the introduction of MyAEW internationally this week, Khan notes he’d like to see it grow domestically in the United States as well. He notes AEW’s great relationship with Paramount through his NFL connections. MyAEW is about reaching as many fans internationally as possible in over 150 different countries. Domestically, AEW works with a number of networks and hosts for pay-per-views and AEW is very excited about what the future can hold.
The main event Sunday will be MJF defending the Men’s World Championship against “Hangman” Adam Page in a Texas Death match. The opening match of Revolution 2025 was the same two men in the ring. The seeds for this feud were plants back in 2019 at Double or Nothing, AEW’s first show ever. Two of AEW’s greatest men’s champions and the two men that stood beside Bret “The Hitman” Hart when he unveiled the title belt in 2019. Both men have lived up to the expectations and their rivalry writes its latest chapter Sunday in Los Angeles.
The main event stipulation has garnered more than a bit of criticism, both good and bad. Khan sees Page’s case as one where the challenger can rewrite history this Sunday after Cody Rhodes’ earlier unsuccessful challenge with the same stipulation.
In what is sure to be an intense match, Brody King and Swerve Strickland will push each other to the limit. Outside of the ring, Brody King has not been shy about his views. Khan sees King’s openness and authenticity as at the heart of AEW. Authenticity and where the best wrestle.
Pacing has sometimes come into question where AEW PPVs are concerned. There are so many rivalries that culminate and propel forward at a pay-per-view. Khan sees the PPV cards as one of the main reasons why AEW has grown so well in a short amount of time. There’s no offseason in professional wrestling so there’s no shortage of matches that any PPV can have.
TBS Champion and Women’s Tag Team Champion Willow Nightingale will defend both her titles on Sunday. Khan puts her over as one of the best singles and tag-team wrestlers the promotion boasts. He says she’ll be tested in both matches as Lena Kross gotten the upper hand over the double champ already.
Khan notes that “Big Boom” AJ was first a wrestler who then became a social media influencer. His involvement in AEW is not a “celebrity guest”, as some might think. Wrestling has always been part of his background.
Recently, Samoa Joe was placed in concussion protocol. Khan puts him over as one of the greatest champions in the history of the sport. Khan has optimism for a return soon for Samoa Joe.
Megan Bayne has unfortunately had a lot of instability in regards to her tag-team partner. Khan says Bayne has taken it all in stride and has always been on AEW’s radar. She’s wrestling her best right now and Khan is very proud of the success Bayne has had in every situation she’s been put in. Even dealing with her own injuries, Bayne has a stellar track record of delivering in AEW. Khan sees no reason for that to ever change. Through these unfortunate circumstances, she’s always been adaptable..
Khan points out the Ring of Honor is actively still looking for media partners and searching for the right deal. Part of that is consistently having strong shows.
Ending the call, Khan touches on a bunch of matches that he could not get to earlier in the call. FTR vs. the Young Bucks, Moxley vs Takeshita, and Storm vs. Shafir. He notes how personal the men’s tag-team match is. Moxley and Takeshita are sure to bring the house down and Khan knows a match between these two always means a fantastic match. No time limits means these two will whatever it takes to win the title. Storm and Shafir have had so many run-ins, had a DQ, and will have no outside interference in their match.
Khan thanks the media members and again notes his excitement for Sunday’s show and the upcoming seven-year anniversary of AEW.
