AAA’s Mr. Iguana could have one of the fastest rises to stardom in recent WWE history.
Talking to Linea Directa TV, Iguana revealed that he is being prepped to join WWE’s main roster.
Iguana spoke about the record-breaking Worlds Collide show over the weekend. He mentioned how different it was performing in front of just 500 people at Revolution Park in Mexico to wrestling in front 15,000 at Worlds Collide and 30 million online.
“I have always been nervous. Wrestling makes you nervous,” he said explaining that doesn’t go away despite him wrestling for 16 years now. He is always nervous before a show. “I went there to have fun and represent my city, Culiacan.”
He was then asked about what challenges he faced in adapting his lucha, AAA style for WWE. Iguana responded by saying the American audience responded to the style very well. Even though he is well-known in Mexico, the character he plays took quite some time to be accepted by fans. Wrestling is more physically demanding in Mexico. America there is more focus on the presentation of your character.
“Every I did, every thing I do, is as if I was born for this,” he responded saying he didn’t change anything about his style or his presentation at Worlds Collide.
Iguana said that his goal is to represent the city of Culiacan as a superhero in the ring.
“I have always said that without relatives there is no environment. If Culiacan is known throughout the world for what we are, I will never change who I am or my style,” he said.
He explained that the origin of his character is from Culiacan as there are thousands upon thousands of iguanas in Las Riveras Park.
“There are more iguanas than rats in the entire city,” he joked.
Iguana then detailed his experience backstage and how he might be appearing on WWE’s main roster very soon.
“I was in the Performance Center yesterday and they told me, you’re not going through NXT – you’re heading straight to the main roster. I was literally taking pictures with Shawn Michaels and they told me they need you here because your shirt is the top seller in WWE, and you’re also the fastest-rising star when it comes to action figures and trading cards. Being in WWE is the dream of every child and I will have all the time in the world for my city because thanks to them and thanks to being Culiacan, I would not be where I am today,” he said.
