A former WWE writer is creating a new wrestling drama for Netflix.
Creator and writer Michael Notarile is developing Tuesday Night Titans with Jon M. Chu and Caitlin Foito, reports Deadline.
Notarile wrote segments for WWE’s Monday Night Raw and their pay-per-views from 2013 to 2015 as well as episodes of The Cleaning Lady and The Resident. Chu is the director of Wicked, In the Heights, Crazy Rich Asians and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
Many fans may recognize the title as Tuesday Night Titans (TNT) was a WWF talk show, variety show that aired on the USA Network from 1984 to 1986. It was hosted by Vince McMahon, Lord Alfred Hayes and Gene Okerlund. It featured sit-down interviews, skits, musical numbers and angles to push WWE storylines.
The new Netflix series is described as: “Set in the spectacle-driven world of professional wrestling, Tuesday Night Titans follows a tenacious writer who risks her career in the big leagues to recruit her estranged childhood best friend – a ‘jobber’ wrestler on the indies – to join the same behemoth company they idolized in their youth. Their destinies become entangled as they battle personal demons, ruthless colleagues, and their complicated history in an industry where “kayfabe” – wrestling’s staged reality – isn’t confined to the ring, but bleeds into every aspect of their lives.”
The series is currently in production and there is no release date.
