Billy Jack Haynes declared unfit for trial

Billy Jack Haynes (William Albert Haynes) will not be standing trial in connection with the death of his wife, at least not yet.

At a court appearance today Judge Angela Lucero declared him mentally unfit to continue.

“Haynes will undergo further evaluation and treatment at Oregon State Hospital until he can be deemed fit to proceed,” reported Fox 12 News.

Haynes is accused of murdering his wife Jan Becraft, 85, last year by shooting her in their home.

A mental competency hearing is now set for May 20 and if he is declared mentally fit then a trial will proceed on Dec. 21st.
