The Final Boss might not be finished with Cody Rhodes…just yet.
On the Pat McAfee Show today, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson spoke about and keep referring over and over to the fact that his angle with Cody is still in play.
“We have established this idea of Cody selling his soul and we can always come back to it,” he said.
One assumes that could mean that Cody is so devastated at losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to John Cena that he is willing to sell his soul to The Final Boss to get it back.
Johnson maintained it was his call not to be involved any further with the Cena, Rhodes storyline and not appear at WrestleMania.
“I made the call. I don’t want to be involved in that. I want to step back, let the Final Boss step back into the shadows, let all the spotlight go to John (Cena), Cody (Rhodes). Let’s not make it about Cody’s soul. Let them do what they do. I called them after Elimination Chamber and I told them I think The Final Bosses work is done. We just pulled off the greatest angle in pro-wrestling history except Hulk Hogan turning heel,” he said.
Johnson claims that his involvement with the Chamber show came from Ari Emanuel, CEO of Endeavor and CEO and executive chairman of the TKO Group, himself.
“I got a call a month before Elimination Chamber. I get a call from Ari Emanuel, who owns TKO, TKO owns WWE, he has been my long-term business partner and one of my best friends for over 20 years. He said: We need help at Elimination Chamber. Tickets sales are a little slow but beyond that, he says, what we are finding is with Elimination Chamber it has become the pay-per-view it is interesting, fans have had fun but it is also the conduit to WrestleMania. How do we create an Elimination Chamber that people MUST tune in to see? How do we create that as right now, we don’t have that. Will the Final Boss show up?”.
The Rock chatted with HHH, Nick Khan and Ari Emanuel. The idea for the soul angle was his. He claims fans loved it.
As Cena and Rhodes went off on their WrestleMania angle Johnson says he gave them one piece of advice as he stepped away.
“I am always here if you need me but I think the Final Boss shouldn’t be involved that finish,” he said.
