AEW brings the second iteration of the Dynasty premium live event this Sunday, April 6, from the Liacouras Center in the City of Brotherly Love. The card currently has nine matches set but should include a few more additions with none currently on Zero Hour.
Here’s how Sunday night is shaped up so far:
1. Jon Moxley (c) vs. Swerve Strickland for the AEW Men’s World Championship
2. “Timeless” Toni Storm (c) vs. Megan Bayne for the AEW Women’s World Championship
3. Kenny Omega (c) vs. Ricochet vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey for the AEW International Championship
4. Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, PAC, and Wheeler Yuta) vs. Rated FTR (Cope, Cash Wheeler, and Dax Harwood) for the AEW Men’s World Trios Championship
5. Chris Jericho (title) vs. Bandido (mask) for the ROH World Championship (Jericho has issued the challenge and has yet not heard back from his opponent)
6. Daniel Garcia (c) vs. Adam Cole for the AEW TNT Championship (there will be no time limit and outside interference is prohibited)
7. The Hurt Syndicate (with MVP) vs. The Learning Tree (Big Bill and Bryan Keith) for the AEW Men’s World Tag Team Championship
8. Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight – Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament first-round match
9. Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart – Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament first-round match
** Bandido’s match has not been confirmed as yet with his availability currently in flux for this Sunday, per Tony Khan. As well, Bandido has not yet officially responded to Jericho’s challenge. **
Khan started the call answering a question about the viewership numbers. AEW is consistently getting great results as “one of the top sports streaming shows” despite not having access to the numbers that he might like to have.
The NBA deal set to expire might push Collision to a different time slot but Khan put over the success of Collision on cable in its current Saturday night slot. The success of the show, especially with examples like Grand Slam in Australia, allows for this confidence in the momentum. Khan would be “open to basically anything within reason”, should the network move Collision. Khan is very grateful for the network’s support. Khan also mentioned the consistency that Wednesday Dynamite and Saturday Collision have been showing with the new Max deal and the two-show-per-week deal has allowed for increased revenue for the brand.
Khan and AEW remain focused on Warner Bros. with the new Amazon Prime PPV deal. TBS, TNT, and the MAX libraries remain the priority for AEW programming. The Amazon Prime partnership contributed to Revolution’s massive success. Original content for now remains the weekly shows and the home of AEW remains WBD at this time. The new partners have done nothing but help the excitement of the shows and Khan himself is excited for the potential.
Warner Bros. Discovery and AEW have a number of projects under wraps at the moment but “it’s an exciting time”.
AEW has had “great international growth” and this could lead to international deals. Khan pointed to iTV in the United Kingdom, a partner since AEW’s inception.
Regarding her title defense against Megan Bayne, “Timeless” Toni Storm looks to continue her story. Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart is one of the matches Khan is most excited about on the Dynasty card. Mone and Hart will be part of a tag match this Saturday on Collision with Athena and Harley Cameron in the main event. AEW’s Women’s division has had the stars for the main events in a number of recent programming. The stories have shown heavy interest in the fan base and AEW will see more of this with the Women’s Own Hart Tournament.
When asked if Sting would be involved in Lex Luger’s WWE Hall of Fame induction, Khan said that he’d last spoke to The Icon around Revolution and that topic didn’t come up but “would have to talk to him about that”.
Speaking on Jon Moxley’s Revolution title defense vs. Cope, the spot with Spike ending up in Moxley’s back was a “hardcore wrestling moment” and Khan also called it a dangerous moment that paid off. Khan said that AEW has and will continue to put on some of the best hardcore wrestling matches around. “Our fans love it and … many of our wrestlers push it to the next level”. As well as pushing to the next level, inter-gender matches will be used “when they make sense for the story” as we saw last night on Dynamite.
Khan touched on the free agency in pro wrestling, explaining how it’s so unique in pro sports. The calendar never stops and the fans show their interest 52 weeks out of the year. He said it’s helpful to be ever-evolving as the landscape is so vast.
AEW Dynasty airs this Sunday on MAX, TrillerTV, and Amazon Prime at 8pm EST.
