Welcome to One Shot, everyone!
Mads Krugger vs. Babathunder
I was a little surprised that Eric Bischoff was able to find someone who’s as big as Mads Krugger in Babathunder. The height disadvantage that Krugger is so used to has been pulled from under his feet at an alarming rate as Babathunder hammered down on the leader of CONTRA Unit. Ha! Things started to go against Babathunder after he tried to headbutt Krugger with that mask on.
Mads didn’t take too kindly to Babathunder’s sudden appearance, so he repeatedly rammed his head against the post. Babathunder returned fire with a side slam. I’ve never seen Mads slightly lopsided, but here we are. He did momentarily neutralize his opponent with a mega superplex. It’s staggering that the ring remained intact following that implosion.
This is the first time I’ve witnessed Krugger grabbing someone from their throat by hopping onto their back. Ha! It was kind of funny. Not as comical as Mads pulling an Undertaker, then snatching Babathunder into a sleeper hold. That was enough to choke him out, so Mads could win.
After the match, the rest of CONTRA emerge from the shadow, surrounding Babathunder. This led to a shocking offer. Krugger was willing to invite Babathunder into the group, and he accepted to the befuddlement of the commentary table.
Winner: Mads Krugger
Backstage, Bomaye Fight Club’s Alex Kane has a confrontation with Eric Bischoff about his involvement in tonight’s proceedings. Kane believed that Bischoff is a “parasite” who “sucks the life out of professional wrestling” by turning it into whatever happened to WCW in its final days. He reckoned that Bischoff will do the same with MLW, so he warned him that Bomaye is the future.
Delmi Exo vs. Ava Everett
A few seconds after the bell, Exo dropped Everett on her face with a thunderous kick to the jaw. If y’all remember correctly, Everett and Exo met before when Delmi was Featherweight Champion and Ava was WXW Women’s Champion last year in a Champion versus Champion title match where Ava lost. They had a second meeting where Everett was able to recapture the belt, now this is seen as the rubber match.
Delmi has the upper hand during the majority of this fight as she ricocheted Ava’s head against the turnbuckle multiple times. Everett returned fire by hanging Exo off the middle rope, then proceeded to pull her hair from the back. She nearly pinned Delmi with that neck breaker.
Exo managed to turn things around with that Fisherman driver that almost ended her opponent, so she went high risk with that belly-to-back suplex from the second rope. Despite that, Ava came close to pinning Delmi. However, she made the stupid decision to berate Delmi with the recurring events of when Janai Kai cut her hair at Slaughterhouse. That encouraged Exo to perform a successful second attempt at the Delmi Driver to secure the victory.
She warned Janai that she’s coming for that title in a Hair vs. Title match. The fact that she’s willing to put her entire head of hair on the line for a title belt is something I rarely see. If she loses, she’ll have to go bald… or at least a fade hairstyle.
Winner: Delmi Exo
Elsewhere, Cesar Duran was trying to convince Eric Bischoff to showcase Mistico tonight despite Bischoff thinking that the appeal with the Luchador mask and styling of it all is outdated. Gasp! Eric made matters even worst as he raised the stakes by putting Mistico’s Championship AND mask on the line. Oof.
Bobby Fish vs. Alex Kane – Fan’s Choice match
The fans have voted for this to be a UWFI Rules match where there will be no pinfalls. In order to win, either men has to submit or knockout their opponent. The option of referee stoppage is also included if necessary. No rope breaks, striking is limited as well as illegal maneuvers.
From what I saw, there were a lot of grabbling moves in the early goings of the match. Kane seemed to have the advantage, so much so that Fish slipped under the ropes because of that. An exchange of punches momentarily unbalanced Bobby until he regained control by kicking Kane’s legs. In a regular fight, Bobby would have won with that roll up, but he forgot what type of match this is. Oof.
Kane lost a point when he used the bottom rope to force a break when Fish had his leg all tied up. He knew where to focus his attacks, so Bobby continued to zero in on Kane’s left leg. The suplex assassin was reeling for a while now, limping on his good limb. Luckily, Alex was able to perform another suplex, a powerbomb and a brain buster.
The assault was too much for Fish, so he didn’t get back up in time, awarding Kane the win against the Rogue Horsemen. That may have felt good, but what came after certainly did not. Bischoff came on the video screen to happily fire Kane, and I suspect it’s because of the earlier chat they had. “Nah, nah, nah, nah. Nah, nah, nah, nah. Hey, hey, hey, goodbye.” Eric was singing that song as security swarmed Kane. I can tell this man is going to be an irritant for me. I don’t even know Bischoff very well, and he’s already making stupid decisions.
Alex fought off a couple of them, until more showed up. Mr. Thomas came in to calm his friend as they exit the ring together. Well, we don’t want him to go to jail…
Winner: Alex Kane
Mistico (c) vs. Trevor Lee – World Middleweight Championship match + mask
Girl, I know I’m not seeing things. Trevor Lee is Cameron Grimes. He used to be on NXT before he got drafted to WWE SmackDown, then he disappeared for a while. Ha! Guess I know where he went. To say that he was displeased with his run on WWE’s main roster is an understatement.
Grabbling and tussling around as they both attempt to get a grip on each other is amazing to witness. Lee had a good hook on Mistico’s leg and ankles, forcing him to remain in the middle of the ring tied up. Quite frankly, I’d love to see more grabbling maneuvers in wrestling like this match.
Mistico was able to control his challenger by slugging Trevor around like a sack of flour, practically forcing him outside for a bit. Unfortunately for the audience, Lee was able to catch Mistico off guard and regain the upper hand by tossing the Champion into the turnbuckles as rough as a herd of frantic bulls rushing towards you.
Of course, it wouldn’t make sense to not want Trevor to win the gold, just not like this. It didn’t have to potentially cost the aura of another person. While Lee grabbed hold of Mistico’s mask, Mistico only had Trevor’s hair to yank on. Later on, Lee started striking at Mistico’s left shoulder.
Lee nearly uprooted Mistico’s title with that Shiniest Wizard move that came out of nowhere. Almost, but not quite there yet. So, he hammered down three, maybe even five times as hard when he ventured to remove Mistico’s mask from on top of the ring. That didn’t work, so Lee delivered a massively ear-ringing basement drop kick in the corner.
After all the physical abuse Mistico endured, he came out victoriously with that Spanish Fly from the top rope, keeping his title and mask. Although, I must say, Trevor’s left shoulder didn’t COMPLETELY look down on the mat. Never mind that…
Winner: Mistico
Donovan Dijak vs. Matt Riddle – Golden Ticket on the line at Kings of Colosseum
Stupendously so, Riddle had Dijak in a submission hold by compressing Donovan’s arm between his legs, exhausting Dijak’s energy as he forced himself to remain at a vertical base. Matt focused his attacks on the arms of Dijak. This time it was a Kimura hold. Good for Dijak, he was able to toss Riddle off.
Somehow the protective covering of the turnbuckle came off, so Riddle was smacked right on the edge of it. Commentary reckoned that might have been Saint Laurent’s doing since he has a tendency to walk around guilty all the time like it’s a normal thing.
Riddle made a comeback with a couple of ruthless kicks to the legs of Donovan as he backed him up into a corner. Dijak retaliated with a big clothesline that flipped Riddle like a pancake or chicken. Take your pick. I’m hungry for both. Anyway, back to the match, not my stomach. Riddle turned the tied on Donovan with a powerbomb and a knee strike that came too close to bells ringing in favor of Matt.
That big boot to Riddle’s face stopped traffic from moving smoothly. I actually thought that Matt won when he very much knocked Donovan out with that knee and Broton. The three count was so close, but it wasn’t complete. I couldn’t believe it, and neither could Riddle.
Naturally, he had to refer to something he hasn’t done in a while. A very strange, but effective body-tangling submission to mangle Donovan. I don’t know why Saint Laurent felt the need to pull the official out of the ring when Dijak hasn’t shown any signs of tapping yet.
All I’m glad about is that little tiff on Saint Laurent’s part ended this match prematurely still in favor of Riddle. The bad part was that Matt was being ripped to pieces. Luckily, Tom Lawlor came to save him.
Winner: Matt Riddle, I think…
The Andersons vs. Matthew Justice & ? – EZE’s Roulette Tag Team match
Everyone was happy when the dial landed on NYC Street Fight section because no rules matches are best the kind. Justice’s mystery partner was none out than Paul Walter Hauser. I don’t think I’ve seen him since his match versus Tom Lawlor in a MMA style match.
While Matthew had a handle on Brock Anderson, Hauser focused on CW in the other corner. Ten punches to the head of both Andersons in unison. Things got out of control once a camera man got knocked over at ringside. Ha! Ha! That’s when things truly get exciting.
I’m telling you, the Andersons were on the receiving end for a noticeable amount of time. Getting their asses shoved and tossed around very easily. They kept scattering all over the place like scared cockroaches. They even tried to leave and got caught at the entryway.
The Andersons finally get their upper hand on the chessboard after disposing of Justice towards the guardrails. Hauser was now left alone to deal with two of the Rogue Horsemen members. Matthew insisted on coming back, yet he was immediately thrown away again. Hauser suffered at the hands of a spine buster on a duo of chairs.
In the closing moments of the match, Matthew was hoping to crash on top of Brock with a table placed under him. Unfortunately, Brock moved out of the way, resulting in Justice colliding with his own setup. With Hauser alone again, he fought the Andersons off as best he could. He managed to put CW through another table, regrettably, he missed Brock as he bumped himself into the exposed turnbuckle.
That allowed Brock to pin Hauser effortlessly.
Winners: The Andersons
On Jan 11, Janai Kai will defend her Women’s World Featherweight Championship against Delmi Exo in a Hair vs. Title match. Mads Krugger, Akira, Trevor Lee, Matthew Justice and BRG are set to battle in a Gravity Gamble match. Due to the disqualification of earlier, Matt Riddle still gets to keep his golden ticket to face Satoshi Kojima for the World Heavyweight Championship.
CozyMax vs. CONTRA Unit (c) – World Tag Team Championship match
Prior to this match starting, there was a little disturbance backstage. Just as CozyMax were making their way to the ring, CONTRA Unit’s Sentai Death Squad were laying and waiting to attack them. Sweetly, Akira was there to jump atop the stairs with a chair to intercept them. He was overwhelmed at some point by Ikuro Kwon and Minoru Suzuki.
Kwon and Kojima continue this match as Satoshi delivered a powerful shoulder tackle towards his opponent. Just as Okumura was busy with Ikuro, Suzuki kneed him on the back while Kwon delivered a kick to Kojima’s gut. Minoru inflicted more pain on Shigeo by wrapping his legs around his right arm.
CONTRA Unit were fighting with CozyMax on the main floor, they enjoyed every second of it as you could see on Suzuki’s face as he stuck his tongue out towards the camera. Back inside the ring, Kwon and Okumura brawl it out as Ikuro performed a combination of a flatliner and a slingblade before tagging the sadistic Suzuki.
Minoru was viciously and deliberately torturing Okumura. You could hear the screams, it was hard to watch. Satoshi had to come in and break that up. Because of that, Minoru delivered a big boot to his face. Later on, Shigeo was finally able to take Minoru down for a bit with a neck breaker, so he could tag Kojima.
There’s something about Minoru that leaves me breathless, the way he barely reacted to Kojima’s signature chops to the chest. He almost looked unbothered by them, but he also was bothered. His teeth were grinning like an insane person.
Amazingly so, CONTRA Unit were surprisingly reeling after a while, much to their detriment. While Okumura was busy with Ikuro in the middle of the ring, Kojima made sure to block Suzuki from returning, so Shigeo could successfully pin Kwon. CozyMax have become the first 2-time World Tag Team Champions! It’s a bread party.
Winners: CozyMax
