Iconic Atlas Security member ‘Jersey’ Joe Walchik passes away

Joe Wilchak, an iconic figure from the heydays of ECW as one of the members of Atlas Security, the company that provided security services at the company’s live events, passed away on Saturday, September 28. Earlier in the week, PW Insider had reported that Wilchak – or “Jersey” Joe as he was known – had entered hospice care following a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

As one of the large, black and yellow clad Atlas Security team, Wilchak was a constant figure at ECW shows, and after that company’s bankruptcy, took on roles for Ring of Honor and other companies.

Many “ECW originals” paid tribute to Wilchak on social media.

“Rest In Peace Jersey Joe Wilchak from Altlas Security. You were a sweetheart of a guy. You were family. My thoughts go to your family. God speed brother…..,” wrote the Blue Meanie.

From Angel Media of the tag team Da Baldies:

“It’s hard to find the words to express the loss we all feel. You were always there for us in ECW, no matter what, always watching out for us and making sure we were safe. We knew we could count on you and the rest of Atlas Security—your loyalty and dedication never wavered.

You were more than just security; you were our brother. The bond we shared, the memories we created, and the times we fought side by side will never be forgotten. You always had our back, and for that, I’m eternally grateful.

Rest easy, my friend. Your presence will be missed, but your legacy lives on in all of us.

RIP.”

Manager/announcer Joel Gertner encouraged people to honor Wilchak by “… doing some good today, being kind to a neighbor or stranger, something good with Joe in mind.”
