A representative of Nikki (Bella) Garcia has released a brief statement today concerning the arrest of Garcia’s husband Artem Chigvintsev on a domestic violence charge yesterday morning.
“This is a private matter, and Nikki asks for privacy for her and her family at this time,” is all the rep would say.
There are however more details about yesterday’s incident. During his call to police, Garcia’s husband claimed Nikki threw shoes at him.
The dispatcher relaying the call states at the time: “Initially came in as requesting medical, but now he is stating he got into an argument with his wife and his wife threw shoes at rp [reporting party]. There is a child on scene. Medical en route. There’s an active 415 [disturbing the peace] in the background responsible.”
The medical call was cancelled but when police arrived on the scene to investigate they saw injuries to the alleged victim and arrested Chigvintsev.
TMZ is reporting that sources claim the couple’s relationship “always been volatile”.
“Artem and Nikki’s close friends, including their former ‘DWTS’ cast and crew members, are not entirely shocked by Artem’s claims Nikki threw shoes at him during a heated exchange… Still, we’re told the consistent narrative from their marriage has been that their arguments often stemmed from issues involving control and belittlement,” wrote TMZ.
Garcia has admitted in the past that their marriage had issues when it came to how he spoke, communicated with her and they attended couples therapy.
On E!’s Nikki Bella Says I Do, a series which chronicled the couple’s wedding Garcia admitted the couple even got into a fight the night before their wedding about a trip Chigvintsev and their son were taking to Turkey without her.
On the show she said: ‘It definitely caused a lot of tension and tension that is still there.”
Chigvintsev said in response: “I do feel like she doubts my ability at being with Matteo and being his dad. I can handle the situation.”
A month ago, Chigvintsev was accused of abuse while participating in the 2012 season of Strictly Come Dancing in Britain by his dance partner Fern Britton.
“He (Chigvintsev) would look at my feet and just kick me or shove me,” she told The Huffington Post UK.
She added: “He was like, ‘Shut your face. Go home before I kill you.’”
A source also told The Sun he would mock her weight too.
