This is the night where Swerve Strickland will put up his AEW World Championship title against The American Dragon, Bryan Danielson. With that, if Danielson loses, he says he will retire for good.

The best sign of the night at ringside says: “Kayfabe lives and she is Timeless.”

Meanwhile, Mina Shirakawa is in the Royal box with Rachel Ellering.  Oh, The drama!

As the bell rings both women are staring daggers at each other, and then they come out swinging.  May is chopping away until Storm gets the upper hand.  At one point, May goes outside with a cartwheel powerbomb to Storm on the floor, spits at Luther, and slaps her mum at ringside (That Hussie!!!)

She lands a spinning slam to the champ and a running dropkick, and she punishes Storm until she counters with a Thesz press.  May counters and hits a running knee strike to the floor, and then dropkicks Luther for good measure.  There are hip attacks by Storm and slams her head to the steps and then nails the Storm Zero on said steps, and hugs May’s mum.

May is showing color as Storm gets her in the ring and mounts with punches.  She comes back and hits Storm with her own succession of hip attacks,  but Storm shows her how it’s done and covers for a two count.  May says she’s her favorite and it’s a slap fest by the women until they go to double head butts and both women go down to the mat.  Storm grabs the bloody shoe that made her go crimson… and pauses. May takes advantage and delivers with a running knee to become…

Three-way tag team match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) (c) vs. FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) vs. The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster)

There are loud chants from England of “Scissor me, Daddy!” so you know how England swings, but the Young Bucks channel that Liverpool love:

Caster and Harwood start the match, as the Bucks cheer on.  Soon everyone is in the ring and Bucks get sent out as FTR and The Acclaimed battle on.  At one point there is an assisted Sliced Bread to Wheeler by The Bucks for a two count.  The Young Bucks use chicanery at every point in the match, even though FTR utilizes all their arsenal including The Power and The Glory.

At one point, Wheeler throws Nicholas out as FTR the Shatter Machine but the ref gets pulled out.  Now Caster helps Matthew connect with the EVP trigger and then switch sides for the Shatter Machine. Then the Bucks go for a Superkick Par-tay, until Matthew grabs the belts, and Daddy Ass stops that nonsense as Caster hits the Mic Drop for a two count, but ultimately the Bucks win.

As they celebrate, Zack Gibson and James Drake come out to stare at the Bucks but then knock out Wheeler, and you can bet the Grizzled Young Veterans.

This could have been an email…or an episode of Collision after Orange Cassidy and Kazuchika Okada entered the ring.  Before I could get a second Haiku in, the music kicks in and the crowd goes wild as Nigel McGuinness wrestles for the first time in…ever!

After that, Kyle O’Reilly comes in, as does the winner of the New Japan G1 Climax, Zack Sabre Jr.

AEW American Championship: MJF (c) vs. Will Ospreay

Fans at Wembley are coming unglued for Ospreay as he goes full Assassin’s Creed for his intro.

Once the bell rings, they come out swinging and Ospreay sends him out and dives on MJF to the outside.  He lands a space-flying Tiger drop and loads up for the Hidden Blade but MJF ducks and then goes on offense.  Ospreay goes for every opportunity, but  MJF counters beautifully and at one point signals for the Kangaroo Kick and lands it, but Ospreay counters with a flying elbow.  He goes for the Kawada kicks to a spinning senton for two, and he goes for a tope, but MJF catches him for a tombstone on the floor.

He yells, “Anybody can flip, you piece of s***!”,  and MJF tries a moonsault but Ospreay catches him for a Spanish Fly.  He lands a guillotine for a two count and MJF reverses the Stormbreaker with a CrossRhodes for another near fall.  Both men go for a series of near falls and neither man has the upper hand until Ospreay with the Stormbreaker gets a count of two.  He takes the arm pad off to signal for the Hidden blade and MJF rolls out of the ring, but he goes for the Oscutter, and MJF ducks away.  He lands a Canadian (err…American) destroyer on the apron edge to Ospreay outside the ring and the ref counts and Ospreay makes it in the ring at nine.  Now MJF teases the Hidden Blade but Ospreay drops in exhaustion, and then the champ turns to a heatseeker but Ospreay ducks and then nails him with the Oscutter on the apron edge.  MJF goes for chicanery as he hits Ospreay with the belt.  MJF pins for one, two…no.  He tries for a Hidden Blade but misses. Ospreay attacks and inadvertently sends the ref out of the ring.  Then MJF pulls out a foreign object from his trunks but before he can use it, a masked man comes out and it’s Daniel Garcia. 

As he stares at Garcia,  Ospreay hits him with the  Hidden Blade and then the Tiger Driver ends his title reign.

AEW TBS Championship: Mercedes Moné (c) (with Kamille) vs. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.

The CEO comes out in a royal carriage and Corgis and shoves the belt in Baker’s face.  Early in the match, Baker goes for the Lockjaw, but Kamille is there to help out.  Both challenger and champion go to a nice back-and-forth, and again Baker attempts the Lockjaw but cannot cinch the hold in.  The fans give dueling “C-E-O/D-M-D” chants, and at one point Moné goes for an up top suplex but Baker sends her crashing down. 

She even gets Kamille in trouble, a la a Guerrero surprise.

Once Kamille gets sent out by the ref,  Baker nails a Panama Sunrise for a two count, but it’s all Moné as the Moneymaker finds the mark.

Coffin Match for the AEW TNT Championship: Jack Perry (c) vs. Darby Allin

Perry drags a body bag to the ring. That isn’t interesting.

Perry casting his own belt design *is* interesting for those of you who wanna see it.

In any case, Allin has Tacks on his face and he dives onto Perry and battles outside the ring.  He sets him up on the coffin and goes for a dive and misses the mark.  Now The Scapegoat takes control and then brings broken glass to the equation in the ring

(I know.  Cry me a River, folks!)

Allin is in control and gives a skateboard drop to Perry’s back and then poses up top until he pauses long enough for Perry to dropkick him.  He truly wants revenge as he tapes Allin’s hands.  He fights back until Perry uses a belt to clamp his legs and no matter how hard he fights, Perry shuts the lid.

Title vs. Career Match for the AEW World Championship: Swerve Strickland (c) (with Prince Nana) vs.” The American Dragon “ Bryan Danielson

There is a moment when we see Brie Garcia with Birdy and Buddy seeing their dad Danielson enter the ring.  Once Justin Roberts gives the boxing-style intros and the bell rings they lock up and neither man is backing down.  Danielson quickly goes for a LeBell lock and he escapes and heads out of the ring.  Now Danielson follows with a dive to the outside and he has the champ on the ropes with chops to his chest.

Strickland comes back with a backdrop and he is in control.  He nails a JML Driver on the ring bell by the ring apron and Danielson begins to show crimson on his forehead.  The ref starts the count and as Danielson heads into the ring, Strickland picks apart the American Dragon in front of his family.  Back in the ring, Strickland connects with a superplex and Danielson is left dazed.  He attempts a stomp and Danielson catches him with an STF but Strickland escapes the hold.  Now a bloody Danielson fights on and goes for a dropkick in the corner until Strickland stops him.  Danielson goes for the Cattle Mutilation but is thrown off and then kicks the champ and nails a double underhook superplex from the top for a two count.

Danielson stomps his head in and now locks in the Cattle Mutilation, but Strickland breaks out of the hold dropping him on his head with a Vertbreaker.  Dr. Samson checks in and he seems to be fine.  Strickland tries to break Danielson and cannot get the job done.  One House Call can’t do it, but a second and a third one gets a one, two…no dice

Kicks abound and Danielson slaps the taste out of his mouth as he shows the champion how it’s done.  He traps Strickland in a triangle lock but he manages to fight out of the hold.  He delivers the Busaiku knee and Strickland brushes it off for a House Call and another JML driver for one, two…no!

Adam Page comes out and security swarms him. While Strickland watches on, Danielson connects on a Busaiku Knee for two and they unload the offense.  Danielson delivers another Busaiku from the corner and signals another.  After that, he cinches the LeBell lock, but Strickland fights through but it isn’t enough as he submits to The American Dragon.

As the fans celebrate, Yuta and Castagnoli along with Brie and family join in the ring as all of Wembley celebrate!

It is good to be a pro wrestling fan and a pro wrestling dad as the show draws to a close.

Final Thoughts:

 

Strickland and Danielson delivered the goods in this main event.  Nice surprises by Ricochet and Sting, which will hopefully sustain momentum for All Elite.
