WWE has pulled a special Clash at the Castle jersey after criticism and outcry from football fans.
The shirt in question resembled the jersey worn by the (Glasgow) Rangers. It was priced at approximately $90 and with its blue, red and white colouring it was seen as a definite play on the kit, uniform of the Rangers.
Glasgow has two teams in the Scottish Premiership League: Rangers and Celtic. Historically, the two teams have divided fans in Glasgow. The heated and passionate rivalry between fans of the two teams is legendary in Scotland.
The WWE’s move was seen as catering to only one portion of the Scottish fanbase while sticking it to the other by many die-hard wrestling and football fans.
One report states that the WWE assumed, thought the Rangers shirt symbolized Scotland as a whole.
Proud Scotsman Drew McIntyre is facing Damian Priest for the WWE World Championship at Clash of the Castle this weekend. McIntyre is an unapologetic Rangers fan.
