Dynamite: Tough day at the office for Swerve Strickland as Okada defends his title

Greetings and salutations. Its Wednesday and that means that it’s another night of AEW action. On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite we have Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley vs. Jeff Cobb and Kyle Fletcher. We also have a pair  of eliminator matches as AEW Tag Team Champions “The Young Bucks” Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson vs. Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal in an eliminator match. We also have AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland taking on Brian Cage. With all this and so much more, we will get straight to the action.


Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley VS Kyle Fletcher and Jeff Cobb


Moxley is jumped by Cobb and Fletcher. Danielson runs out to help hispartner. The four men brawl all around the arena before the match officially starts. The Callis family had control of Moxley and Danielson for a lot of the early part of the match.

Fletcher runs hard at Moxley, but Moxley hits him hard with a Clothesline. Moxely with a Cutter. Fletcher is in and does a Michinoku Driver and went for the pin until Danielson broke it up. Cobb and Fletcher took turns beating up on Moxley, cutting him off from his partner. Cobb placed Moxley in an Electric Chair position and Fletcher went up to the top rope, but Moxley slipped away and shoved Cobb into Fletcher.

Danielson hit Cobb with a Busaiku Knee and then kicked Fletcher hard. Moxley hit Fletcher with a Death Rider for the win.

Winners: Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley

After the match, Konosuke Takeshita is out and attacked Moxley. Conn beat down on Danielson. Claudio Castagnoli hits the ring with a crowbar and The Don Callis Family ran away.

Copeland gets attacked…


TNT Champion Adam Copeland came out, but was attacked from behind by House of Black. Brody King and Buddy Matthews held down Copeland in the ring. Malakai Black asked Copeland why he puts of a facade of what he is.

Black tells Matthews to take Copeland’s wedding ring, and they rip it off his finger. Kyle O’Reilly is out and takes down Black, but gets laid out by King. Black is back up and hits O’Reilly with The End. House of Black hit Copeland with a Triple-team move and leave the ring.


A video package plays from NJPW Resurgence, where The Elite attacked Eddie Kingston.

The Elite are backstage and hint that Kingston is injured and Anarchy in the Arena might now be a handicap match. Kazuchika Okada calls Dax Harwood a bitch and says he’ll destroy him later tonight.

FTR are backstage. Cash Wheeler says they aren’t going to forfeit, but he’s pretty sure they’ve found a fourth for their team. Dax then calls Okada a bitch because of the company he keeps.

The Young Bucks have a commercial for a new pump shoe coming soon to Champs Sports


Championship Eliminator Match: AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defeated Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal


Relatively easy peasy match for The Young Bucks. Danielson went for a top rope Huracanrana on Nicholas, but Matthew held his brother’s legs. Danielson ends up crashing after attempting the move. The Young Bucks then deliver a TK Driver on Danielson for the win.

Winners: The Young Bucks

After the match, Matthew Jackson gets on the microphone after the match and says they are trying to clean up the toxicity backstage and then fires Christopher Daniels. The Bucks have security escort Daniels out. Jack Perry toasts to The Elite and drinks some of Ric Flair’s energy drink before pouring some on Tony Schiavone’s head. Schiavone calls Perry a son of a bitch.


Toni Storm, Mariah May, and Luther are backstage. Storm hypes up her matches against Harley Cameron and Serena Deeb.

Malakai Black is in his dark room, looking over and talking about Adam Copeland’s wedding ring. Malakai Black accepts Copeland’s challenge at Double or Nothing with a stipulation that when he wins, Copeland will bow the knee to the House of Black.


HOOK VS Sebastian Wolfe


Hook Suplexed Wolfe then applied Redrum for the squash win.

Winner: HOOK

After the match, HOOK gets on the microphone and says that’s not what he’s here for and calls out FTW Champion Chris Jericho. Jericho and Big Bill come out. Jericho says it’s great to have HOOK back, and he hopes he learned his lesson.

HOOK wanted Jericho in a match tonight, but Jericho says it’s not a fighting moment; it’s a teaching moment. Jericho says the world doesn’t revolve around HOOK.  Jericho says HOOK needs to work his way back up to the FTW Championship and tells him he has a match at Collision and if he wins, he might get a title shot. HOOK went to attack Jericho, but Big Bill attackedHOOK. Katsuyori Shibata hits the ring to even things out. Jericho and Bill quickly get out of the ring.


AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland is backstage. Swerve Strickland says he brought a championship back to Washington. Strickland says he might have been put in a coffin at All In, but he’s going to put Christian Cage in the grave. Strickland says he’s going to end things with Brian Cage tonight.


Eliminator match: AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland VS Brian Cage


Swerve avoided the Drill Claw and then proceeded to headbutted Cage. From the ring, Swerve jumped over the top rope and hit a double stomp on Cage on the apron that sent both men to ringside. Swerve rolled Cage back inside the ring and connected with a 450 Splash. Cage was back up and rallied. Cage hit a Powerbomb, then hit a second Sit-out powerbomb for a 2-count.

Swerve avoided another Drill Claw. Both men trade jabs and Cage got the better of it. Cage went for a Powerbomb, but Swerve countered and hit a Double Stomp. Swerve then hit a House Call for the win.

Winner: Swerve Strickland

After the match, Swerve Strickland attacked Cage with a chair until Christian Cage came out with Mother Wayne. Nick Wayne sneaked up to Cage and low-blowed him from behind. Wayne and Killswitch beat down Swerve. Wayne breaks a picture frame of Strickland’s family over his head. Strickland was bleeding.

Cage finally comes to the ring and tells Strickland he embarrassed his son Nick Wayne last year and now has to embarrass Swerve. Cage says he took Strickland’s blood tonight and next Sunday he’ll take his championship.


HOOK and Katsuyori Shibata are backstage. HOOK says the odds don’t mean anything to him, and he will beat whoever he has to beat to get Jericho again. With the help of Google Translate, Shibata asks if that also meant him since he wants Jericho too. HOOK says that’s fine by him.

Samoa Joe shows up and says he used to think HOOK was something special, but now he keeps falling for Jericho’s tricks over and over again. Joe says if they stop playing themselves, they actually might be dangerous. HOOK says he’ll fight Joe. Shibta says that Joe is too big to wear floral patterns.


AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm VS Harley Cameron


Storm with a Fisherman’s Suplex, then followed up a short time later with a Sky High for a 2-count. Storm set up for Storm Zero, but Cameron tripped her and then they traded pins. Storm faked a punch, and was able to finally hit Storm Zero for the win.

Winner: Toni Storm


Will Ospreay Talks…


Will Ospreay and the Undisputed Kingdom confront each other backstage. Ospreay hates that Roderick Strong is this comfortable around him and asks if it’s because he retired the Tiger Driver ’91. Ospreay says he has no respect for Strong because he’s never had any for him.

Roderick Strong says that’s the smartest thing he’s ever said because Ospreay is a child. Strong says he’s worked for everything he’s ever gotten, and he’s going to end things at Double or Nothing. Ospreay says he’s going to humble Strong at Double or Nothing.


TBS Championship Contract Signing


Renee Paquette hosts a contract signing for Double or Nothing. Mercedes Moné and TBS Champion Willow Nightingaleare out. Nightingale says she does respect Mercedes and everything she’s done in her career but she needs to know if she respects the TBS Championship. Nightingale explains why the title means so much to her. Nightingale says she won’t let Mercedes walk in and take that title away from her. Willow signs the contract and pushes it toward Mercedes.

Mercedes Moné asks if Nightingale wants to talk about legacy? Moné says back in 2015, while Nightingale was still training, she was changing the game forever. Moné says Nightingale wouldn’t be here without her. Mercedes Moné says we are all looking at the new face of TBS. Moné signs the contract.

Nightingale reminds Moné that the last time they wrestled, she walked away a champion, and Moné didn’t walk out at all. Moné slaps Nightingale across the face and tried to hit Nightingale with the TBS Title, but Nightingale ducks and powerbombs Mercedes through the table.


AEW Continental Championship: Kazuchika Okada vs. Dax Harwood


 

Dax had control of the match until Okada regained control. After some more back and forth action, Harwood hit a huge Superplex. Harwood hit a Tombstone piledriver for a 2-count.

Okada grabbed his belt and wanted to leave, but Harwood caught him and tossed him back in the ring. The referee cleared the belt and while this happened, Okada kicked the middle rope as Dax was coming back in the ring. Dax is down. Okada picked him up and hit the Rainmaker for the win.

Winner: AND STILL Continental Champion; Kazuchika Okada

The Elite attacked Harwood after the match. Bryan Danielson and Cash Wheeler come out, but they are outnumbered. The Elite have the upper hand until Darby Allin returns and joins the brawl to end the show.
