William “Billy Jack” Haynes has been charged in connection with murder of his wife.

Haynes, 70, was released from hospital today after being treated “for a medical condition unrelated to the homicide or his contact with law enforcement” and was immediately transferred to the Multnomah County Detention Center.

He has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Haynes will appear in court tomorrow.

Haynes’ wife, Janette Becraft, 85, was found dead in their home earlier this month. A tactical squad and negotiators managed to coax Haynes out after he wouldn’t cooperate with police for two hours during a tense standoff.
