Since Smackdown aired last Friday some fans have expressed their disappointment with WWE’s WrestleMania plans.
On that show, Cody bowed out of challenging Roman Reigns at WrestleMania for the WWE Universal Championship paving the way for The Rock to take his place.
Word from Dave Meltzer and The Wrestling Observer is that WrestleMania main event was part of The Rock’s current contract with WWE.
The Rock is now a member of the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of UFC and WWE. As part of the deal Dwayne Johnson also owns The Rock name. WWE President Nick Khan is a close friend of Johnson’s.
It is reported that the WWE’s chief content officer and head of creative for WWE, Triple H, did not know about the deal until after the Royal Rumble was staged.
Due to all the fan backlash in taking Cody Rhodes out of the main event match it is though that Rhodes and Reigns will battle perhaps at SummerSlam as the current plan is for Roman Reigns to beat The Rock, his own “cousin” at WrestleMania.
