Goldberg praises Sting, slams Vince McMahon

Goldberg delivered a bit of Christmas cheer on the Steve & Captain Evil’s annual Helicopters for Heroes podcast but ‘Santa Slays’ himself also had some coal for one Vince McMahon.

Goldberg talked about and was asked about his time in wrestling during the show.

About wrestling as a whole he explained his motivation for getting into the business.

“My only reason to want to be in the NFL was to be somebody kids could look up to but I realized as I was doing my (WWE Hall of Fame) speech that it was more important and I would reach more kids if I was doing the WWE thing. It came full circle. I didn’t appreciate the business. I didn’t look at it in any other way, shape or form other than a money-making business but it game me the opportunity to do the one thing I really wanted to do that was more important than money, fame and titles. It was reaching kids,” he said.

He explained to the live audience that he had the most fun in WCW but it was a madhouse at the time.

“WCW was run by the inmates. If you know anything about the wrestling business at the time they had Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Hulk Hogan and then on the flip side you have the 800-pound gorilla known as Vince McMahon. As long as you into Vince McMahon and make it seem like every idea you have came from his mouth you are good. I will be honest with you. I had the time of my life in WCW! It was awesome! We were killing WWE! It was a small band of brothers against this big conglomerate. A lot of those brothers though were deceitful and villainous,” he stated not naming names.

Goldberg revealed that he wanted to be and pitched to be part of Sting’s retirement match in February. Goldberg first met Sting when he was playing for the Atlanta Falcons and used to work out in the gym owned by Sting and Lex Luger.

“Sting is the reason why I broke into the business. Sting set a great example and he’s about to retire in February. I tried to be part of his retirement match. I wouldn’t have chosen to be in the world of professional wrestling if it wasn’t for Sting. He was a normal dude who went out and did abnormal things. Wrestling is like being in the circus. It truly is. I never looked at it with much respect but after I watched him from afar I realized I had the ability to go do it because he was not only a performer but he had self-respect and he commanded respect. It is really hard to describe. Steve Bordon, Sting, is one of the best human beings on the planet and he set an example for me and I just tried to grab the torch and run with it and make him proud,” he said.

Goldberg wasn’t as festive when it came to what he thought about Vince McMahon though. He claims that McMahon lied to him and didn’t give him the retirement match they had shook hands on.

“Vince (McMahon) is like Dana White. He’s the big boss and he makes everything happen but in all honesty he gave me the opportunity to put my wife and my son in the front row and gave me the ability to perform again in front of them. So I owe him everything UNTIL we went to Saudi Arabia and he asked me to put Roman Reigns over and I had COVID,” said Goldberg maintaining that he spoke to McMahon and they reached a deal. He would happily put Reigns over if McMahon gave him the retirement match he wanted. Because of COVID, Goldberg admits he wasn’t in the best condition to be wrestling Reigns.

“So I put myself in a horribly s–tty situation to get what I wanted to but to satiate him and to give him what he wants. The problem is he never held up his part so Vince is a piece of s–t as far as I’m concerned,” he said.
