AEW Collision (and Rampage): Nightmare matchups before WrestleDream

Bryan Danielson and Zack Saber, Jr. have a staredown before WrestleDream

It’s Saturday night, and it’s all right for fighting (unless you’re in the US Congress and scrambling to keep the lights on…which they did.  Whew!). That means it’s AEW Collision and we are a day away from WrestleDream, with a big eight-man tag team match in the Main Event.

But before we get to the show, let’s talk about yesterday with the patented…

Rampage Review in Rhyme™

The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass defeated The Hardys, which must sting,

And Kingston defeated Rocky Romero, and Shibata confronted The Mad King.

The Righteous defeated jobbers if you can dig it,

and Hikaru Shida beat Ruby Soho to claim a shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship.

So, why is it Rampage doesn’t kill in the ratings?

That’s a question for another time.  For now, let’s jump right into…

AEW Collision

We are coming to you from the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, WA — where SlamWrestling.net’s Ben Lypka was also in the house, and filed this live report: Danielson hometown hero at Collision in Seattle.  Nigel McGuinness and Kevin Kelly have the call and we start with your First Match between…

Andrade El Idolo vs. Juice Robinson (with The Gunns)

El Idolo has the early advantage with a crossbody and then follows with the Three Amigos for a two count, but Robinson rolls out.  Idolo connects with a moonsault to the outside, and then The  Gunns distract him.  Robinson takes advantage and then Rock Hard drops him on the apron and the Gunns taunt him further.  El Idolo chops away, but Robinson comes back with a senton for a two count.  El Idolo mounts the top corner with punches but Robinson stuns him on the top turnbuckle and then nails the cannonball in the corner.  During Picture in Picture, he works over El Idolo and he fights back and gets a dragon screw leg whip.  But Idolo kips up and goes for a  moonsault, but Robinson lifts his knees and he nails a leg lariat for a two count.  He trips him up on the middle turnbuckle and Idolo rushes in the corner but the ref gets in the way.  Robinson gets a thumb in the eye and connects a powerbomb for another two count.  Idolo goes up top and reverses splashes for a rollup but it’s a near fall and then he nails with double knees in the corner and Idolo for the Figure Four but the ref is distracted outside.  Robinson goes for the back elbow that gets a  two count and Idolo delivers the hammerlock DDT that ends it.

Your Winner via Pinfall:  Andrade El Idolo

Tony Schiavone is backstage with Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega and they agree they need to coexist to deal with the Callis Family.  We’ll find out later how that theory works.

We also get another segment of Portrait of a Star with Toni Storm and RJ City, and…well, enjoy this:

Just give Storm the awards, already!

Now for…

Best Friends (Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor, with Rocky Romero) vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett)

Bennett brings his travel suitcase to the ring. and then the Best Friends start to work over The Kingdom before the bell rings.  It takes a moment as The Kingdom regroups and Bennett is in trouble with Best Friends.  But soon Taylor gets the worst of the offense during Picture in Picture and is a Best Friend in Peril and then…

Ads (Why in the Wide World of Sports does this have to happen?  I ask you all.  Ugh!!!)

We come back and Taylor gets the hot tag to Beretta and cleans the house.  It isn’t long before The Kingdom comes back in force.  Bennett covers but Taylor breaks the count.  Then Taylor is thrown to the steel steps and Bennett gives a DVD to Barrett on the outside.  Best Friends get back in the ring with a Doomsday dropkick because you Got to Give The People What They Want ©. But The Kingdom makes sure to catch Taylor and Beretta in the…err, little friends and give a spike piledriver for the pin and the win.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  The Kingdom

After the match, they get on the mic, and they shout out to Roderick Strong that they will zip home to see him and to stay Neck Strong.

Heh.  Classic.

Meanwhile, Alex Marvez catches up backstage with Prince Nana and Don Callis who are having some kind of a confab.  As Callis exits, Nana promises something fun.

But let’s go to the next match between…

Julia Hart (with Brody King) vs. Vert Vixen

There are big chants for the hometown hero Vixen, but you know how this is gonna go, so here’s the first Haiku In Review™

*ahem*

Vixen is so tough

But Hart shows why The House just

Always wins. Oh, Ouch!

Your Winner Via Pinfall:  Julia Hart

Hart gets on the mic and she wants Statlander.the TBS CHamp comes out with the Best Friends, and King gets in the way.  Hart brushes him aside, as does Statlander, and then Hart ducks out so they can fight at the PPV.   Smart girl, indeed.

Now let’s get to one of the big matches between…

Courtesy of AEW.

The Gates of Agony (Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun) vs. Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega

This is mostly a test to see how Omega and Jericho gel as a tag team and they do pretty well, as Omega gives a V-Trigger to Kaun followed by a dive to Liona on the outside.  Jericho adds the Coup de grace with the Walls of Jericho to make Kaun submit.

Your Winners via Submission:  Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho

Jericho and Omega are on the mic and they agree they can coexist, and Omega adds the the punctuation that this will be the end.

Now for something interesting, if you can dig it, it’s…

The Righteous vs. Travis Williams and Judas Icarus

Again, great that the local favorites are here.  However, this match ends quickly, So enjoy this Beef and Zucchini Skillet recipe because that is going to last longer than this match.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  The Righteous

After the match, a block of wood is introduced and Vicent and Dutch go full Misery on Icarus to demonstrate how they will win the ROH Tag Team Championship, as Cole is incapacitated

Schiavone talks with TMDK about what will take place at WrestleDream, and that brings out the Acclaimed.  TMDK drops some rhymes, and…yeah.

Zack Sabre, Jr. and Jim Ross join on commentary for the Main Event and it is an eight-man matchup with…

Ricky Starks, Big Bill, and Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis) vs. Wheeler Yuta, Bryan Danielson, and FT (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler)

Yeah, I do not like recapping these types of matches, but here is the gist of it all:  Everyone gets a chance in the ring until Harwood gets in trouble and he is isolated during Picture in Picture which leads to…

Ads (Yeah, seriously.  I want to brain the foll that thinks a main event match is a good time for us to learn about oatmeal or whatever nonsense is getting shilled out)

We come back and Harwood creates some separation and tags in Wheeler for some offense.  Then he tags in Yuta who nails a flying clothesline and a German suplex for a two count.  He then comes down with the hammer and tong\elbows to the head but Starks comes in to put a stop to that and Bill makes him eat a boot.

The best part of this match is when Sabre says their style of matchup is like, “semaphore with the Internet.”  Brilliant!

Starks works over Yuta and he tosses him to the Aussies.  They keep up the pressure in Picture in Picture, and when Starks tags in, they both go for a double crossbody that knocks the wind out of them.  Yuta manages to get the hot tag to Danielson, and he is a Dragon En Fuego working over Starks, even though Sabre is unimpressed.  After a series of running dropkicks, Starks comes back with a clothesline.  He goes for the RoShamBo but he escapes and then lands a tornado DDT.  Tag to Bill and Danielson goes for a guillotine and transitions to a LeBelle Lock and Fletcher breaks the submission.  All eight men are in the ring and then after quadruple Yes Kicks, Yuta nails Bill with a missile dropkick and then Harwood finishes with a diving Headbutt, but The Aussies break the cover.  With all the chaos outside the ring, Harwood and Bill go to work and he and Starks deliver a choke slam/spear combo to get the one, two, and three.

Your Winners via Pinfall: Ricky Starks, Big Bill, and Aussie Open

There is still chaos as everyone continues to fight, until Danielson gestures for Sabre, and he gets in the ring and has a staredown.  The American Dragon almost takes him down, but Sabre escapes and lets Danielson know he will not beat him at WrestleDream as the show closes.
