Here are some live notes from the August 18, 2023, Smackdown broadcast at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto:

Pre-show dark match: Cameron Grimes beat Odyssey Jones. This was a good match, with Jones reminiscent of Hall-of-Pain era Mark Henry. Grimes won with the Cave-In.

The special edition Toronto Maple Leafs Edge shirts were big sellers, and they had very limited selection at some merch stands before the show had started. They had signed Edge shirts for sale for $250, signed Edge prints for $125, and a signed Edge Maple Leafs hockey jersey for $750.

They announced that WWE will return to Toronto at the Coca-Cola Arena on December 29th. Presale code – WWEPRE

After their main event match, Sheamus teased attacking Edge with the shillelagh but gave it to him instead.

Edge took the mic, and thanked the crowd. He put over Sheamus, and then pointed out and thanked his trainer, Ron Hutchison, who was in the front row. He then thanked Beth Phoenix (his wife) and their daughters.

While he didn’t say he was retiring – but that he would have to discuss things with his family – he did say that this was likely his last match ever in Toronto, the city he will always consider his home.

As he was leaving the ring, Imperium’s music hit. They surrounded the ring but then Drew McIntyre’s music hit and they backed away, allowing Edge to leave, so the dark main event could take place.

Dark main event: Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn beat Imperium.

Near the end of the match, the ref got knocked out to the floor. Vinci low-blowed Owens and then tried to use a chair on him but Edge ran back to the ring and Speared Vinci. Sami then hit Vinci with the Helluva Kick and Owens Stunnered him. The ref woke up and counted the pin.

After the match, Sami thanked Edge on behalf of the crowd and the four celebrated. Edge left the ring after saying

“Hopefully the next time I’m here, we win the Cup.”

He left and the night came to an end.
