Today marked the final day of competition for B Block in G1 Climax 33 and it would be Kazuchika Okada finishing in first place and advancing to the quarterfinal. As for the second place, that all came down to today’s main event between El Phantasmo and Will Ospreay. Whoever won this bout would be headed to the quarterfinals with Okada.

The match began with some chain wrestling, but ELP got things going with a few strikes and a hurricanrana sending Ospreay to the outside. ELP was not able to stay on the offence as Ospreay hit him with a hotshot and a big boot to the floor and he quickly followed that with a plancha. He then began driving ELP’s head into the guardrails before bringing him back into the ring to hit a backbreaker.

ELP tried to get back into it with a nipple twister, but Ospreay fired right back with a chop before locking in a neck crank. Once the hold was broken, ELP was getting Ospreay wobbly with some stiff forearms and chops. He stayed on the attack by hitting a tilt-a-whirl DDT, two atomic drops, a Russian leg sweep and a diving elbow from the second rope.

Ospreay then started to showcase his speed by flipping off of ELP’s chest, hitting an enzigiri and landing a handspring overhead kick. He then leaped from the top rope drilling his forearm into the back of ELP’s head, but he then made the mistake of going back to the top rope. ELP jumped up and pushed Ospreay off the ropes onto the floor, he then walked across the top rope and hit a beautiful diving moonsault to the outside.

He threw Ospreay back in the ring leaped off the top rope with a senton bomb and then ran to the other side of the ring to hit a springboard moonsault. ELP waited too long to get a bigger advantage and both men were now trading forearms. Ospreay knocked ELP down with a forearm and then held his head to hit repeated kicks into his face.

Ospreay followed that with even more chops and both men now ended up on the ring apron. After battling back and forth out there, Ospreay leaped from the second turnbuckle and hit ELP with an Oscutter on the hardest part of the ring. Ospreay was first to get back in the ring and he was waiting for ELP. As soon as ELP got back in the ring Ospreay springboarded across, but he was caught in mid-air with Sudden Death from ELP.

ELP now leaped across the ring with Thunder Kiss ’86 and he followed that with a Burning Hammer, but Ospreay kicked out at two. He went for another Sudden Death, but it was blocked and Ospreay got him with a standing Spanish fly. Ospreay now waited for ELP to get up and hit him with a superkick. He then went for a Storm Breaker, but it was reversed and ELP hit him with a poisonrana.

With Ospreay reeling ELP was able to hit a picture-perfect Sudden Death, but Ospreay managed to kick out at two. ELP now leaped from the top rope catching Ospreay with a tornado DDT, he was then looking for the finish, but Ospreay hit with a pop-up forearm. Ospreay then connected with a superkick and went for an Oscutter, however, ELP caught him in the air into a roll-up. He kicked out at two and ELP came right back putting him in a Gedo clutch, but somehow he kicked out once again.

ELP hit Ospreay with hurricanrana and followed that by hitting him with his own move, an Oscutter. He was then finally able to hit Ospreay with a CRII, but once again Ospreay got his shoulder up at two. There were now only three minutes remaining on the clock and ELP went for a dive from the top rope only to be caught with a cutter. Ospreay then finally connected an Oscutter and followed that with a Hidden Blade. However, neither of those moves could finish the job. It was a Storm Driver ’93 that got it done and Ospreay booked his ticket to the quarterfinals!
