21 years ago wrestling history was made.
On June 19th, 2002, Jeff and Jerry Jarrett’s NWA: Total Nonstop Action held its first pay-per-view at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Simply called “Weekly PPV #1”, the show was headlined by a 20 man Gauntlet for the Gold match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
The match would feature such stars as Buff Bagwell, Konnan, Scott Hall, Steve Corino, Ken Shamrock, Gangrel, Rick Steiner and others.
Other matches on the card included:
- A.J. Styles, Jerry Lynn, and Low Ki versus The Flying Elvises.
- The Johnsons versus Psicosis and James Storm
- The Dupps versus Christian York and Joey Matthews.
To celebrate, Impact wrestling has put out this tweet today:
21 years ago today we held our very first event on June 19, 2002 from Huntsville, Alabama.
As we reflect on 21 years of IMPACT and TNA – whether you attended a show, bought a PPV or watched us on TV, we'd like to thank everybody who ever gave us their time, energy and support. pic.twitter.com/KCabWuIup6
