In the first iteration of the official press release Punk’s name was included but in a second one, his name was removed. It is also rumoured that his face in the promotional graphic was removed and replaced with MJF.
Warner Bros. Discovery has since commented on the discrepancy and stated: “CM Punk is not affiliated with TNT’s AEW Collision.”
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reports that Warner Bros. Discovery instructed staff to remove CM Punk’s name from anything to do with Collision.
PWInsider has also reported that the relationship between Punk and AEW has become rocky once again due to Punk wanting his friend Ace Steel to return as a producer behind the scenes.
Steel was involved in the now infamous backstage skirmish between Punk and The Elite. Steel was fired by AEW shortly after the incident. Steel was also a producer and a coach during his time in NXT.
If Punk is to be involved in the new show both sides have a few weeks to work things out as AEW Collision debuts on Saturday, June 17th and will air from 8-10 PM ET on TNT.
