AEW Dynamite: FTR staying in AEW, win tag team titles

Tony Khan has another major announcement on Dynamite this evening. These feel like they are happening at least once a month. Something tells me that the announcement won’t be as big as the one the other company made over the weekend. Oh, and it’s MJF Day. Let’s get to the action.

“Absolute” Ricky Starks vs. Juice Robinson

Juice Robinson attack Starks from behind before the bell and Switchblade Jay White runs down to join in on the attack. Starks tries to fight them off, but cannot over come the double team. White and Robinson celebrate the beat down.

Chris Jericho tells Tony Schiavone that he has nothing against Adam Cole, but he feels that Cole rubbed his win over Daniel Garcia in a bit. Jericho calls out the disrespect. Keith Lee finds that funny, as he calls Jericho the poster boy for disrespect. Lee challenges Jericho next week.

The House of Black (champions) w/Julia Hart vs. The Best Friends (challengers) – AEW World Trios Championship Match

Trent’s mom is back, driving the boys into the arena for their match. Orange Cassidy is doing work in the ring, sending Buddy Matthews to the floor. Unfortunately, Chuck Taylor is getting demolished by Brody King on the floor. Cassidy gets caught on a dive, while King slams Trent into the ring steps.  The Best Friends turn tables, as Orange gets King to crash into his teammates ont eh floor. Trent and Chuck launch Cassidy over the ropes into the House of the Black. Back in the ring, Malakai Black takes triple powerbomb, but kicks out. Black and Cassidy face off, and Orange gives him the kicks. Black smacks him, only to get hit with Stundog Millionaire. Ana Jay is watching Julia Hart from the back. Trent hits Buddy with a piledriver, but can’t get Brodie up for one. Cassidy connects with an Orange Punch on King and Trent hits the piledrive. Black breaks up the pin. Buddy Matthews stomps Chuck into the mat and covers for the win.

Jamie Hayter (champion) W/Britt Baker vs. Riho (challenger) – AEW Women’s Championship Match

Hayter goes right for the Hayteraid, but Riho is too quick for her. The two trade near falls on the mat. Riho connects with a drop kick that sends the champ to the floor. Riho with a diving cross body to the floor on Hayter. Back in the ring, Jamie hits a gut buster. Riho gets smoked with a kick to the head on the apron and Hayter slams her onto the apron.

After the break, Riho drops the champ into the ropes and hits the tiger feint kick. Riho with another diving cross body, but she can’t get the three count. Riho hits a German suplex and follows with a dragon suplex. Riho makes a weak cover and the champ kicks out. Riho goes up, but Hayter rolls away from the diving foot stomp. The champ with a neck breaker and follows with a lariat. Hayter with a superplex and rolls through looking for a brain buster. Riho counters with a DDT. Hayter gets caught up top and Riho drops her with a hurricanrana to the mat. Riho connects with a knee strike in the corner. Hayter overpowers Riho on a back slide and hits her with Hayteraid. Riho kicks out. Teh champ hits the Ripcord Lariat and covers to get the three count.

Renee Paquette is with the Outcasts who mock Jamie Hayter on her win. They tell her not to get too attached to that title, though.

Matt Menard announces that the Acclaimed will be joining the JAS. The Acclaimed walk out and listening to Max’s rap; I don’t think they will being joining up anytime soon. Angelo Parker wants some clarification. He still thinks they are going to fight together and has got them a team up on Rampage. Bill Gunn shuts down any scissoring attempts. Bowens and Gunn show them how it’s done.

The town of Oyster Bay, New York honored MJF with a day of his own today.

Back in the arena, MJF is introduced with a brass band playing “Pennies from Heaven”. In fact Max gives us his best rendition. The champ is presented the key to the city, as MJF begs the crowd not to ruin this for him. MJF tells a story from his school days and one teacher in particular. Max heads back up to the ramp and is going to give us an encore. One of the band members starts a bit early. Turns out it’s Jungle Boy Jack Perry, who jumps the champ. Security has to pull them apart. After security has them separated, Sammy Guevara walks out and picks up the title belt.

Sammy Guevara vs. Komander

Sammy blindside Komander with a jumping knee and hits him with springboard moonsault to the floor. Guevara leaps into a thrust kick. Komander walks the ropes and hits a shooting star press. Komander runs the ropes and leaps off to the floor, but Sammy catches him with a strike.

After a commercial break, Komander fights out of vertical suplex and hits a reverse-rana for a two count. Komander walks the ropes again and springboards himself into Sammy with moonsault. He rolls Guevara back into the ring, but misses the shooting star press. He lands on his feet. Komander hits  Fenix splash, but only gets a two count. Komander counters the GTH, but takes a thrust kick. Sammy gets caught on the ropes as Darby Allin watches from the rafters. Komander walks the ropes, but Sammy catches him with a cutter. Guevara hits the GTH and gets the win.

After the match, Tony Schiavone interviews Sammy. He runs down MJF and vows that he isn’t going anywhere. He loves AEW.

“All Ego” Ethan Page (challenger) vs. Hook (champion) – FTW Championship Match

---

Hook hits a T-bone suplex to send Page flying. Page rolls to the floor and slams Hook into the apron, the ring steps and then off the ring post. Page wants the Twist of Fate, but Hook counters with one of his own. Isiah Kassidy jumps the apron. Page tries to take the belt, but Hardy grabs it. Page gets hit the belt and Hook looks in Redrum. Page is out.

Winner…and still FTR Champion…via submission: Hook

After the match, Hook daps up Kassidy and Hardy.

Tony Khan is with Nigel McGuinness, who is very excited to be with Tony. Khan announces the AEW ALL IN will take place on August 27 in London, England at Wembley Stadium.

The Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta w/Bryan Danielson) vs. Local Enhancement Talent – Trios Match

Yea, the Club absolutely destroys these jobbers. Wheeler Yuta gets one to tap out at get the win.

After the match, Bryan Danielson gets on the microphone. He loves his family, Mox, Claudio, Wheeler, and professional wrestling. All Bryan see is amateurs. The only professional wrestlers in the building are in the ring. Hangman Adam Page makes his way to the ring, despite being outnumbered Page starts throwing hands. Bryan calls him an amateur. Danielson is going to fix AEW. He pulls out a screwdriver and gauges Page with it.

The Gunns (champions) vs. FTR (challengers) – AEW World Tag Team Championship Match

FTR have vowed to retire and leave AEW if they loses this match. Wheeler and Colten tie up and go to the corner. Cash with a slap after separating. Colten takes down Wheeler with a shoulder block. Cash with a drop toe hold and Harwood drops on elbow on him. Dax then assists Wheeler on a leg drop. The Gunns retreat to the floor to reset. Cash cuts the meeting short with a sliding drop kick. Colten drop kicks Cash off the apron. The Gunns double team Wheeler with a knee lift into a lariat. Austin with a cheap shot in the corner. Colten hits a full nelson slam but is only able to get a two count.

After a commercial break, Dax Harwood gets the hot tag. He takes the fight to both Gunns. Hitting Colten with an inverted atomic drop and short armed lariat. Austin gets rolled up, but is able to kick out. Cash with a missile drop kick, allowing Dax to get a lateral press. FTR with a double DDT to Austin. Cash is beaten into the corner by Austin. Dax makes a blind tag and assists on the spike piledriver. Austin kicks out of the pin.

Austin eats the Shatter Machine, but Colten makes the save by pulling the ref out of the ring. The ref decides not to call for the DQ. Cash is driven into the ring post. Austin with a Famouser to Dax, but he is able to kick out. Harwood counters a double underhook with a backslide. Austin kicks out. Austin with a low blow to Dax, but Cash stops the ref from calling for the bell and the DQ. The Gunns hit Wheeler with the 3:10 to Yuma and set Harwood up on the top turnbuckle. Dax fights off Austin. Colten slides a title belt into the ring. The ref sees it and hands the belt off to Justin Turner. While that is going on, Colten slides the other belt to Austin. Dax with a diving head butt onto the title belt. Austin covers, but Harwood kicks out at the last moment. Dax blocks the 3:20 to Yuma. Wheeler comes off the top with a sunset flip to Austin as Harwood gets the flip on Colten. Dax stacks Colten up and gets the three count.
