After two years in Jacksonville due to the pandemic, AEW Double or Nothing returned to Las Vegas. Even though CM Punk had a chance to capture a major professional wrestling title for the first time in over nine year, the news of a potential walk out by MJF overshadowed everything. Fortunately, the drama ended quickly as MJF answered the bell in the first match of the night.

In the main event, CM Punk took on Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship. It was after midnight on the east coast, when Punk made his entrance. Both entrances were fairly low key, despite taking place in Las Vegas.

The two men went nose to nose at the bell. Punk forced the champ into the ropes. Page then turned the tables and gave Punk a bit a face wash in the corner. They traded shots in the middle of the ring, but Punk locked in a head lock after he got the worst of the chops. Page landed a hard shot and the two traded chops again. The champ dropped Punk in the corner with a massive elbow strike. Punk fought back with more chops. He whipped the champ into the corner and then nearly got a fall after a shot to the gut.

Punk slammed the champ twice in the middle of the ring. He went up top and connected with a cross body. The champ rolled through and hit a fall away slam. Page followed with a springboard lariat and then hit a plancha over the top. Punk was slammed into the security barrier and then had his face pressed into the ring steps.

The fight moved back to the middle of the ring. A rolling elbow took Punk down. Punk reversed a whip, but Page exploded out of the corner with a shoulder block. Hangman was ready for the Buckshot Lariat, but Punk was able to cut him down on the apron. On the floor, Punk was slammed into the ring apron. Page hit a flying lariat in the ring, that Punk kicked out of at two. The champ went up top again, but Punk was able to meet him to hit a superplex.

The two exchanged elbow strikes in the middle of the ring. Punk connected with a leg lariat and followed with a rising knee strike in the corner. Punk took down the champ with a bulldog and followed with a springboard lariat. Punk was thinking sharp shooter, but Page fight him off. Punk hit a neck breaker, but only scored a two count. With the champ on the mat, Punk looked to go high risk again. It didn’t pay off, as a hard shot from the champ sent Punk to the floor. Page hit the moonsault on the floor. With Punk in the ring, Hangman went for the Buckshot. The champ’s knee buckled on the landing, allowing Punk to lock in a sharp shooter. The champ was able to crawl to the ropes to break the hold.

Punk wanted to got for his own Buckshot Lariat, but was unable to land after the flip. Punk tried again and collapsed, but still somehow connected with the Buckshot. The challenger called for the GTS. Page was able to fight his way out. He caught Punk in the corner and power bombed him. He follows with Dead Eye, but was only able to score a two count.

Page took a page out of Punk’s playbook and called for the GTS. Punk grabbed the top rope to save himself. A roundhouse kick slowed down the champ, but it didn’t stop Page from hitting Punk with his own finisher. Some how Punk kicked out at two. The two trade forearm shots from their knees. Page hit a clothesline that spilled both men to the floor. Page grabbed his title, taunting Punk with it.

Hangman rolled Punk into the ring, setting up the Buckshot Lariat. Punk countered, but setting up the GTS the ref was knocked out. Page hit the lariat, but there was no ref to make the count. Page eyed his title with the ref out cold. Punk got to his knees, but Page was conflicted. He tossed the belt away and went for the Buckshot. Punk countered again and was able to deliver a final blow with the GTS. He covered for the three count to win the AEW title.

The next AEW PPV is AEWxNJPW: Forbidden Door from Chicago, Illinois on June 26th.


Double or Nothing Buy In

The Acclaimed and the Gunn Club come out and rap to kick off the buy in. It’s good to see Anthony Bowens even if he is in a wheel chair.


Hook and Danhausen vs. “Smart” Mark Sterling and Tony Nese


Hook takes down Nese, who immediately rolls to the floor. Danhausen tags himself in, which Nese finds hilarious. Nese puts on the brakes, but misses on an elbow. Danhausen tries to curse Tony, to no effect. Sterling is knocked off the apron, but Nese trucks Danhausen. Sterling tags in, stomping Danhausen in the corner. Sterling with a suplex, but misses on the leg drop. Nese gets the tag and immediately knocks Hook off the apron. Danhausen eventually gets to Hook for the hot tag. Nese is thrown into the corner and Sterling is tagged in. Hook with the El Camino to Nese and follows with a slam to Sterling. Danhausen wants the tag and gets it. He steps on Sterling and gets the pin with one foot.

AEW Double or Nothing Main Card


MJF vs. Wardlow


MJF draws out the drama by taking his sweet time walking out of the tunnel. MJF ducks out of the ring at the sound of the bell. MJF with a shot from behind that has no effect. MJF escapes out of the ring and slides back in when Wardlow gives chase. MJF looks for a sunset flip, bt can’t get the big man over. Wardlow goes for the power bomb, but Max counter by biting Wardlow on the face. MJF gets caught trying to leap frog Wardlow, but is able to counter the power bomb into a pin. Wardlow kicks out. MJF pulls out the Dynamite diamond ring, but Wardlow catches him red handed. Now, MJF wants to talk his way out his current situation. The two shake hands, but Wardlow doesn’t let go. MJF is power bombed, but that isn’t the end of it. Wardlow is looking for the Symphony, hitting four more power bombs. Wardlow covers, but cuts the count off at two. MJF takes a total of ten power bombs, before Wardlow finally makes the cover for the three count.

MJF is taken out of the ring in a neck brace on a back board. Tony Schiavone informs Wardlow that he is now officially All Elite.


The Young Bucks w/Brandon Cutler vs. The Hardys


Matt Jackson taunts Matt Hardy, telling him that time is up. Nick then taunts Jeff, by imitating his entrance. The Hardys then taunt the Bucks, and Nick is tripped up by the ropes coming into the ring. Jeff and Matt send him back to the floor. Matt Hardy take down Matt Jackson with a clothesline. Matt Jackson ducks out of the corner as Nick kicks Hardy out of mid-air from the apron. The Bucks double team Jeff in their corner. Jeff with a double clothesline, but can’t get the tag to Matt as Cutler yanks him off the apron. Nick crashes and burns attempting a Whisper in the Wind. Jeff shows him haw it is done, connecting with his Whisper. Matt Hardy tags in, taking turns smashing Nick, Matt and even Brandon Cutler into the turnbuckles. Matt hits a Side Effect on Nick, but can’t get the pin. Nick with a face buster on Jeff. Nick superkicks Jeff off the ropes, sending him crashing into both Matts. Nick follows up with a senton from top turnbuckle. Matt Hardy is left alone in the ring, allowing the Bucks to hit a dual moonsault. Nick accidently cracks Cutler in the face. Matt Hardy with a Side Effect on the apron to Matt Jackson. Matt Jackson counters a Twist of Fate and launches Matt into Jeff. A jawbreaker sends Matt Jackson to the floor, but Jeff misses the Swanton. Matt Jackson with a Twist of Fate and Nick hits the Swanton. Hardy kicks out. Jeff avoids the BTE Trigger, but can’t avoid the Superkick Party. Matt Hardy also gets an invite the party. The Bucks unloads super kicks in rapid succession. The Hardys get to their knees, daring the Bucks to kick them again. The Bucks oblige, but Jeff and Matt kick out of the pins. Matt Hardy hits a BT bomb on Nick, while Jeff sets Matt Jackson on the ring steps. Jeff goes up top and hits a Swanton Bomb on the steps. Nick Jackson kicks out after a Twist of Fate. Matt with a Side Effect and follows with another Twist. Jeff goes up top, connecting with the Swanton Bomb. Jeff covers and gets the three count.

Anna Jay (challenger) vs. Jade Cargill (champion) – TBS Title Match


Jade makes her way to the ring flanked by showgirls. Cargill with a snap suplex, kips up and takes Jay down with a clothesline. Jade with a back elbow in the corner. Anna catches Jade on the top turnbuckle, hitting a superplex. Cargill misses an elbow in the corner and Jay connects with a kick. A heel kicks sends the champ into the corner. Anna with a flipping neck breaker, but Cargill rolls to the floor. Keira Hogan and Red Velvet try to attack Jay on the floor, but Anna fights them off with a DDT. Anna takes down Jade, when Mark Sterling runs down. He slides a crutch into the ring, but Anna uses it. Jade kicks out of the pin. John Silver runs down and takes out Sterling. In the ring, Cargill with the Eye of the Storm, but Jay kicks out. Cargill looks for Jaded, but Anna counters into the Queen Slayer. The champ breaks the hold in the corner. Jay goes up top again, but Cargill catches her this time. The two fight atop the turnbuckle, when Stokely Hathaway walks down the ramp. Jay is shocked to see him, allowing Cargill to hit an avalanche Jaded. Cargill covers and gets the win.

The House of Black (Buddy Matthews, Brodie King and Malakai Black) vs. Death Triangle (PAC, Penta Oscuro and Rey Fenix) w/Alex Abrahantes – Trios Match


Fenix taunts Black with the cross legged pose after ducking a kick. Malakai stares him down in the same pose. Rey with a supper kick to Matthews and tags in Penta. A thrust kicks rocks Buddy. Pac comes in with  a low drop kick after  a blind tag. King tags in, throwing Pac into the corner. All six men brawl in the middle of the ring. Pac fights off King and Black, but the numbers catch up with him. Penta with a sling blade off the middle rope. Buddy with a meteora to Penta. Pac with a poisonrana to Matthews and follows with a lariat. King with a Bossman slam on Pac. King crashes and burns in the corner after Pac dodges a cannonball. Fenix gets the hot tag. Penta and Fenix take turns kicking Matthews and the fly over the ropes to take out King and Black on the floor. A triple team isn’t enough to keep King down, though. Fenix with a step up drop kick. Matthews blocks a suicide dive and suplex Fenix on the floor. Pac wipes him out, only to have Black hit a moonsault. Penta launches himself into mass of bodies. King flips over the top rope, barely, to take out Pac. Fenix is cornered in the ring by the House of Black. Penta breaks the pin. All six men are in the ring and Death Triangle hand out super kicks. Pac with a brain buster to Malakai; Buddy Matthews breaks up the pin. Penta with a Canadian Destroyer to Buddy on the apron. Rey with a foot stomp on King, as Penta delivers a DDT. Malakai is surrounded in the ring by Death Triangle. A back heel kicks takes out Penta and Black also catches Fenix with one. Pac takes down Black and goes up top. Matthews runs in. Pac hits the 450 over Matthews onto Black. Pac sends Matthews to the floor. Abrahantes jumps to the apron. Pac goes up top, but the lights go out. Julia Hart is standing in the ring and spits the black mist in Pac’s face. He drops to the apron. Malakai with the back heel kick and covers and gets the three count.

Adam Cole vs. Samoa Joe – Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final


Cole wants a test of strength, but Joe isn’t falling for it. A head butt sends Cole crashing into the corner. An enzuigiri drops Cole. A massive back elbow sends Cole flying out of the ring. On the floor, Joe runs into a thrust kick. Cole whips him into the ring post. Joe blocks a Panama Sunrise and drives Cole into the mat. Joe with a senton, but can’t maintain his drip looking for a powerbomb. Cole runs right into a lariat though. Joe wants the Muscle Buster, but Cole leaps over him and connects with a kick. Cole with a backstabber, but it’s not enough to get the pin. Cole locks in a cross face. Joe catches the super kick and power bombs Cole. He turns him over into an STF. Cole gets a foot on the ropes to break the hold. Bobby Fish runs down and distracts Joe. Cole misses the running knee and is locked in a sleeper. Fish distracts Joe again, making him break the hold. Cole with a series of kicks and lowers the Boom. He covers and gets the three count.

Ruby Soho vs. Dr. Britt Baker DMD – Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final


Soho grab Baker by the hand, not allowing Britt to get to the ropes. Ruby does not break the hold, even after getting knocked into the corner. On the floor, Soho connects with a shotgun drop kick. Baker slams Ruby into the barrier, but Soho reverses a suplex. She rolls Baker back into the ring, but gets caught on the turnbuckle. Baker with a big elbow strike. Soho cuts down Britt on the top turnbuckle and hits a superplex. The two trade blows in the middle of the ring. Baker with a thrust kick, but Soho avoids the curb stomp. Ruby connects with a rising kick and hits suplex. Soho connects on a senton bomb, but only gets a two count. Soho is slammed off the top turnbuckle and hit with a curb stomp. Ruby kicks out of the pin at two. Baker pulls out the glove and wants Lockjaw. Soho fights her off and gets Britt in a pin. Baker has to break the hold. Soho with the No Future kick and applies a sharp shooter. Baker tries to crawl to the ropes. Soho pulls her back into the middle of the ring. Baker claws her way back to the ropes and is able to break the hold. Britt runs into a boot. Soho with a victory roll, but Baker counters. Britt gets the three count and the win.

Sammy and Tay come to the ring wearing the belts they stole from the America Top Team compound, but first they make out on the stage. This is not face behavior. Sammy immediately makes a blind tag in. Ethan wants in and Sky lets him. Page pummels Sammy on the mat. Conti with a cheap shot on Sky. Sammy with a springboard cutter. Sky hits Frankie with a flatliner. VanZant and Conti finally get hands on each other. Page with clotheslines and then a back suplex. She follows up with a back hand spring elbow. Sammy saves his girlfriend from a TKO. Page hits Sammy with a DDT. She drops Tay face first into Sammy’s crotch. VanZant with a Michinoku driver. Conti with a judo throw and follows with a pump kick in the corner. Tay drop Page and Sammy celebrates with his women. The Men of the year have seen enough and so has Frankie. He abandons his partners. Sammy takes a cutter. Frankie comes back to drop Sky with a DDT. Tay confronts Frankie for tagging himself in. Sammy runs in and accidently takes out Conti. Kazarian dumps Sammy out of the ring. Sky hits Frankie with the TKO and covers to get the pin.

Kyle O’Reilly and Darby Allin


O’Reilly looks for the cross arm breaker right away, but Allin is able to get to the ropes to break the hold. Allin with a low drop kick and follows with Code Red for a two count. Allin floats over and hits a scorpion death drop. KO catches the coffin splash. Allin with a stunner that sends Kyle to the floor. Darby with a suicide dive. He clips the bottom rope and crashes into O’Reilly. Allin with another dive, but KOR catches him and locks in a sleeper. Allin catches O’Reilly on the top turnbuckle. Darby with a near fall. KOR hits a brain buster and then locks in a cross arm breaker. He transitions into an ankle lock. Allin steps over and locks in a scorpion deathlock. Kyle gets to the ropes. Darby with a dragon screw in the ropes and he follows with a Coffin Drop onto the apron to the floor. Darby with a Coffin Drop in the ring, but KOR counters into the arm breaker. Allin rolls him up and Kyle is forced to break the hold. O’Reilly with a PK and Allin kicks out at one. Kyle delivers a diving knee drop and covers to get the three count.

Rosa and Deeb trade holds on the mat. The champ locks in a pendulum hold. Deeb breaks free. A shoulder tackle sends Serena to the mat. Rosa with an uppercut, but misses a charge in the corner. The champ knocks Serena off the apron to the floor. Deeb slams the champ into the ring post and delivers a neck break through the ropes. Deeb lands a European Uppercut. Serena locks in an abdominal stretch. Rosa breaks the hold with a hip toss. Deeb is run into the middle turnbuckle with authority. The champ with a lariat in the corner. She follows with a drop kick and a northern lights suplex. Deeb locks in the flying octopus. Deeb releases he hold and hits a DDT off the turnbuckle. Rosa with a Russian leg sweep and rolls through into a cross face. Deeb escapes and locks in the stretch muffler. A double clothesline sends both women to the mat. The champ with a stomp to the back and hits the Death Valley Driver. Deeb kicks out at two. Serena with a chop block into a figure four. The two stay tied up and slap each other. They roll out of the ring. Thunder Rosa takes a dragon screw in the ropes. Deeb hits the Detox, but Rosa gets a foot on the ropes. Serena hits a power bomb and looks for the clover leaf. The champ gets to the ropes to break the hold. Deeb goes up top, but gets caught. The chap with a superplex and then immediately hits the Blue Thunder Driver. Rosa covers and gets the pin.

The Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho, Jake Hagar, Daniel Garcia, Angelo Parker and Matt Menard) vs. Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Santana, Ortiz and Eddie Kingston – Anarchy in the Arena


The JAS head into the crowd to meet their opponents and the fight is on. The pinfall has to happen in the ring, though. Moxley breaks out a fork to stab Menard. Jericho then stabs Mox. Jericho tries to get away a rascal scooter. Wild Thing is still playing as the fight goes on. Ortiz and Santana double team Hagar in the ring with a suplex. Jericho rips apart the music board to kill the song. Hagar is put through a table at ringside. Garcia with a piledrive to Ortiz on the ring apron. Garcia is trying to drag Kingston to the ring by belt wrapped around his neck. Mox with a suicide dive to Jericho and then locks in a figure four. Moxley unscrews the turnbuckle and starts to disassemble the ring. He slams the turnbuckle into Jericho and then crotches him with the ring rope. Mox whips Jericho with a turnbuckle while Danielson fish hooks Hagar with another one. Ortiz sets up a ladder. Mox pulls out a barbed wire board. Ortiz and Santana take out two members of the JAS with big moves off the ladder. Jericho sprays Mox with a fire extinguisher. Danielson with a Lebell lock on Jericho while Mox with  a bulldog hold on Hagar. KIngston hits the ring with a can of gas. He douses Jericho, but Bryan stops him from lighting it. Mox tries to be peace keeper, but gets tossed into the barbed wire board. Jericho hits Kingston with the Judas Effect. Jericho has the ring turnbuckle and nails Bryan. Danielson kicks out of the pin. Danielson fights off Hagar and Jericho. Danielson with the running knee to Hagar and then hits Jericho with the Psycho knee with a chair. Jericho kicks out at two. Hagar takes out Bryan with bat. Jericho locks in a single leg crab as Hagar chokes him with  belt. Danielson passes out and the ref calls for the bell.

The Men of Year feel good about putting their feud with Sammy Guevara to rest. Scorpio Sky wants to know who is stepping up next. Dante Martin wants a shot. Sky tells him he isn’t ready, but he’ll give him a shot.


Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs (challengers) vs. Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee (challengers) vs. Jurassic Express (champions) w/Christian – AEW World Tag Team Triple Threat Match


Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus take out both other teams with moonsaults on the floor. Swerve tags himself in, but ends up having to face off with Hobbs. Lee and Swerve team up to take down Hobbs. Lee crushes Hobbs in the corner. Jungle Boy breaks up a jackknife cover. Jungle Boy with a hurricanrana to Swerve and follows with a suicide dive. Keith Lee catches JB flying over the rope and power bombs him. Hobbs makes a blind tag. He suplexes Jungle Boy. Starks runs into a boot from Jungle Boy, but then takes him on a rope walk. JB crotches Stark on the top rope. Strickland with the blind tag and hits Hobbs with a diving uppercut. Swerve launches himself off Lee to take out the champs on the floor. Lee picks up Hobbs, but Hobbs fights him off. Luchasaurus tags in and tees off on Hobbs in the corner. He takes out Starks and Hobbs with a double clothesline. Lee tags in and all three big men are in the ring. Luchasaurus gets choke slammed by Lee and Hobbs. Lee tosses Hobbs to the floor and then follows with a tope con hilo . Luchasaurus picks up Lee and slams him. The two trade shots in the middle of the ring. Hobbs takes out both with a diving neck breaker. Jungle Boy tags. Starks with a pin, but Christian points out Starks is using the ropes for leverage. Starks with a spear on JB in the ring, but swerve breaks the pin. Starks with a sling shot Rochambeau. Luchasaurus breaks up the pin. Hobbs hits Luchasaurus with a spine buster. Swerve follows with a Swerve stomp to Hobbs. Luchasaurus accidently kicks his partner in the face. Lee picks up JB and Swerve hits a stomp from up high. Hobbs breaks up the pin. Starks cracks Lee with the FTW belt. Swerve takes a kick from JB. Christian stops Starks from using the belt on Jungle Boy, who nearly get rolled up by Swerve. Strickland gets hit with Jurassic Express and JB covers to get the pin.

Double or Nothing was a solid show, but the five hour run time didn’t do it any favors. Thunder Rosa successfully defended her AEW Women’s title against Serena Deeb in the match of the night. Jurassic Express also defended their tag team titles in a triple threat match that lived up to expectations. Anarchy in the Arena was a car crash as expected. The Blackpool Combat Club and Jericho Appreciation Society found innovating ways to extract violence on each other. CM Punk captured his first AEW title in a match that featured some blown spots.
